How intelligent are you?

There isn't one, so far. "Intelligence" is such a multi-faceted, non-linear, fluid-over-time concept that Binet's IQ test is much too simplistic.

How is the concept of intelligence fluid? - I have always seen it in terms of an ability to learn when presented with a new situation and that does not really change.

I agree that there is a cultural limitation to the tests that are currently conducted.

There would be no point giving the tests that I was given to a nomadic tribesman in Africa because the tests require a level of numeracy and literacy that intelligence itself doesn't.

Within a western population with compulsory education that is less of a concern.

The fact that so many Mensa members seem to be such non-achieving misfits, in general, should alert anyone to the inadequacies of said test.

I don't actually know any Mensa members - I declined the invitation to join because when I read through their magazine I thought that they looked like a bunch of non-achieving misfists

Actually I would say that anyone who is financially successful, family-stable, socially popular with their peers and resilient demonstrates high intelligence.

Again, could you apply that criteria to our African tribesman?

I agree with the rest of what you're saying, but in this respect the comparison is OK as long as you use local criteria. An African tribesman may well be very accomplished in tracking and hunting, capable of maintaining a considerable herd of cattle, adept at trading with other tribes and an all round good egg who helps out in the community and has lots of chums. I'd call him a clever chap.
