According to Relate, an emotional affair is just an affair without the sex, and is just as damaging to a relationship as a full on sexual affair.
I didn't read it, cause I can't stand Relate. They're a business, and half the time they cause more problems than they solve.
If Relate could put a name to 10 more ways to damage marriages they would wouldn't they?

An emotional affair is not the same as a sexual one.

Any friendship could be described as "an emotional affair". This is such opressive bullsh1t.

If you dont have the confidence and trust in your own marriage, that your other half can't have opposite sex supporting friendships, then you're already doomed!

Pleo - take no notice & don't allow yourself to get wound up. There's some excellent advice in this thread, and a lot of rubbish. Your situation is too serious to be distracted by the rubbish. Just concentrate on the priorities and keeping your cool. You may both be culpable in different ways, but apologise expecting nothing in return - the children, the marriage, these eclipse any blame-mongering.

I sincerely wish you all the best tonight.

Quite right too. I certainly wouldnt want my mum doing anything different.

Lifes too short to be miserable for 25 years so you dont upset kids. Kids are adaptable, in the long run they will be fine.
The Mods stole my post count!

I asked her if she was going out to meet up with someone else, she said no!
I read her phone messages, she can read mine if she likes I hide nothing from her.
I drunk whiskey and took knife to my arm.

When i spoke to her next day she hadn't gone out and wanted a divorce.

Pheonix - are you foreign? You're coming accross to me as sounding really odd, but I've just realised you might not actually be from the UK. Do you originate from somewhere else?

So did you read her phone messages all of the time? or was it just that one time?

Do you still not realise that regardless of whether you would let her read your phone, you should not have ever read hers? It's an invasion of privacy.

You're not going to stand much chance tonight if you dont understand this stuff lad.

Some would argue that an emotionless sexual affair is less damaging than an emotion-filled non-sexual one. I think I'd agree with that.

Any friendship could be described as "an emotional affair". I disagree. This is such opressive bulltulip.

If you dont have the confidence and trust in your own marriage, that your other half can't have opposite sex supporting friendships, then you're already doomed! Agree - but an opposite sex supporting friendship isn't the same as an emotional affair.
I respect your POV but I still feel you're thinking of friendship/support while I see something more ominous.
