So, more sex-education is the answer. I remember reading somewhere that the Netherlands have similar sex-education to the UK. But their teen pregnancy rate is much lower.

The solution is obvious. If you father (or mother) a sprog while either of you is under 16, both parents get sterilised.

Personally, I've always firmly believed that sex education is the problem. If children remained innocent until they were over the age of consent they would not get this urge to experiment and would be left alone to enjoy the other wonderful experiences of childhood. Sex education, provision of condoms, plus widespread parental approval of underage sex, and access to the benefits system is providing this urge IMO, and thus should only be provided after the age of consent.

Its an interesting idea : but children tend to talk. I learnt most of my sex education at scouts (and there was no practical : they just used to talk).

Exactly, so why do you need it in schools? All schools do is publicise it to a wider audience and create further curiosity, and provide the means of experimentation. They are also causing the interaction on this subject between boys and girls with dire consequences, which obviously at boy scouts did not happen.

You aren't seriously suggesting that people would not have the slightest curiosity about sex until the age of 16, just because no teachers mentioned it in school?

Clearly you were engaged in other things whilst the rest of us were staring out the windows watching the girls play hockey.

We all had curiosity at school but we did not sit with groups of girls and discuss it, enabling us to decide with a nudge and a wink who was willing for a bit of experimentation. Sex education has provided a catalyst for boys and girls to indulge much more than we ever did, and with dire consequences.

Teenagers have sex. FACT. And it's not sex educations fault, it's just life!

Teenagers have been having sex for as long as time goes back - even our own mothers, and their mothers. Dont you lot watch Oprah? All these people in their 50s and 60s now tracing back their real parents who had babies scandlously young and HAD to get them adopted.
At least today we live in a society open enough to talk about it - which means the young kids (both the mams and the dads) get to be involved.

I'm really not suprised at how quickly and enthusiasticly you lot jumped to take the p*ss out of this young boy AND his dad...belittling them, calling them thickos, chavs etc... But what I saw in this situation was a young boy who straight away stood up and said "I'll be the dad - I'll step up". And I saw HIS dad, proudly at his side, supporting him, proud of him - he'd obviously taught him to be a stand up guy...even at 13.

If you think education is expensive, try ignorance

I think this has more to do with the fact that you (and most others on this board) were giant nerds at school.

Believe me, there WERE people in your year shagging. Just cause you didn't do it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

So how many 13 year-old fathers do you know of prior to this one, in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s etc ?
Of course his father is proud of him. He has won him a contract for 10s of thousands of pounds with a horde of tabloids to sell his story as his father.
