Umm, from stories I saw in relation to this they claimed Holland had a much more extensive sex education programme. Could be wrong on that, but thought that was what I saw reported.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostThat's what I said - they have the same level of sex-education in holland, but the kids either don't shag, or use contraception.
Was also mentioned that sex education was more about awareness, and respecting your body etc, whereas here it's more a functional how to do it thing.Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

The father has nine kids. He might have taught his son some great values but the need for adequate contraception wasn't one of them. This is where we fail because adults, generally, are not leading by example. Can every guy here say 'I use a condom every time; it's well worth a few seconds of fumbling, and it's the first thing I think of when it looks like I'm going to score' ?
Sorry SallyAnn, although it's admirable that the kid wants to do the right thing, the truth is the poor kid has no idea whatsoever what the right thing is. It's alarming that, to this kid, sex is something to do when you're bored with playing on the playstation. That's wrong - so very wrong, and if you can't see that it's wrong then maybe you are part of the problem because you treat children as miniature adults who are capable of the same decisions as adults make. They aren't, they don't have the benefit of experience nor the capacity to recognise consequences. Kid's have, and have always had, sex in their young-teens, but it doesn't make it right and there are many reasons why they are getting younger. Pick up any magazine aimed at a teenage girl and look at the pressure on them from a bloody magazine to go much further than just kissing.

When I was about five, a girl in the street, same age, got me on the field behind the school and asked me to put my thingy in 'there'. I didnt have a clue what she was on about, but she must have had one weird childhood

WHS. I would also add that another catalyst for more sex is the number of single parent families, where the parent is just too busy or just does not have the will to properly supervise their children.

I was in a similar situation when I was about 14. How I wish I had had a modern education. I'd probably have a 40 year-old son/daughter by now !!
