... and they left a growing economy in 1997. So what do the current lot of Labour deserve for the biggest recession in living memory ?
You left-winge..ers deserve this HMG !!
Obviously the thing that Carol Thatcher did wrong was to make a quiet comment in private.
If she had issued her comments loudly in public to an audience and directly at a black person to be 'edgy' and to cause outrage, followed by a partial apology, she would still have a job with the BBC.

What he should have said in his apology was:
"I apologise for calling him a one-eyed Scottish idiot because I now see that most of it was irrelevant. The fact that he had an accident as a child and lost the sight in one eye was irrelevant to his capabilities to be a prime minister. And the fact that he is Scottish is also irrelevant to his capabilities to be a prime minister.
However, he is still an idiot"
I think there is a big difference between casting such an opinion over someone to calling someone a golliwog.

I heard this morning that he clarified his apology in similar fashion to what you suggest!

Maybe, but the allegation isn't that she called someone a golliwog, it's that she said someone looked like a golliwog. I've seen people that look like all kinds of things. And she said it in private, not on air.

His actual apology wasn't far off that:
In the heat of the moment I made a remark about the Prime Minister's personal appearance for which, upon reflection, I apologise.
