Done: off to Oxfam with it. I'd forgotten a lot (i.e. all) of that one: no recall whatsoever**.

Next: "3001: the final odyssey" by A. C. Clarke.

**Then again when the board software deposits me back in April 2025 of this thread I can't remember much of those books either. Just as well I'm getting rid of them all. It's mildly inneresting the bits I do remember from decades ago, such as The Postman from Hiroshima who appears in "Hobson's Choice".

I do like Neal Asher, but they can be awfully violent and graphic.

I'm reading Deathworld by Harry Harrison (Gutenberg project). I read it as a teenager. Happy memories.

That doesn't have Slippery Jim diGriz in it either. .

I have just realised that it's 52 years since I read Deathworld 1.

Next: "The Unexpected Dimension" by Algis Budrys. Another anthology. I like anthologies coz the stories are short. Unless they're novellas of course. .

Slippery Jim isn't out of copyright. Only Deathworld 1 and Planet of the Damned. I found one Asimov also out of copyright. Never read it before, and it wasn't very good, but you could see the beginnings.

I first discovered Harrison when Slippery Jim Saves the Wolrd was serialised in 2000AD.

If you get financial means later to buy the book, then you must support your favorite authors and buy that book.
