I'm serious. Britain is no longer any kind of superpower. Accept a slow decline into obscurity & poverty or sign-up to Europe. That's the choice as I see it.

Yes, he was not an advocate of an open door immigration policy, and his Human Rights policies were a little short of what we have now. Perhaps he just needed someone with Browns economic brilliance to explain the benefits of unfettered immigration.Originally posted by snaw View PostTrue, but he wasn't as inlcusive, you might even say multicultural as what we have now adays ...Boom boom boom boom

That is easy - some of us knew that Labour would be as bad - we did not need to see them to know that.Originally posted by Peoplesoft bloke View PostI can understand anyone voting for the Tories now - but why anyone would have voted for them in 1997 is much more difficult to grasp unless you are so dyed in the wool you'd vote for a monkey if it had a blue rosette.
Principly because Labour tends towards this high taxes, high regulation where Tories tend towards low taxes and low regulation.
The reasons for the recession of the early 90's was the belief that a large defecit between what we import and export was a bad thing and to reduce imports we needed to slow the economy down. This is now seen as flawed - once the recession was over, then the economy improved with reducing unemployment, a reducing inflation rate, improved productivity, the country attracted increasing amounts of inward investment. Almost all the pointers that were positive when Labour took over, are now not only are they going in the opposite direction, in a lot of cases they are as bad or worse than 1992 - the tail end of that recession.Comment

No matter who you vote for - the Government always gets in.
That said as the current Shadow Defence Minister is an old friend of mine - perhaps I could get a job as a button pusher.
I think this would look good on my CV.
OK - we're talking 15 million dead - tops.Comment

I'm not sure how you could herd all of the UK's chavs into one target location, but it's worth a try, Wales perhaps?. It would save on ordinance costs too.Originally posted by AlfredJPruffock View PostNo matter who you vote for - the Government always gets in.

Too late. Too blind. We're already there, but we won't admit it. Those of us who gastarbeiten in the richer countries notice the contrast every week.Originally posted by ace00 View PostI'm serious. Some say that the billions spent could have been invested in the NHS or some other dubious social activity , but I say you cant be too careful these days, what with Johnny Foreigner on the warpath.

Among Johnny Foreigner, the French in particular manage to operate an effective health service, while steadfastly retaining a substantial Offensive Capability.Originally posted by AlfredJPruffock View PostAu contraire what European country can now match Britains Nuclear Offensive Capabilty , apres the Trident upgrade ?
