My guess is that the torque caught him by surprise and he didn't put enough boot in to compensate.

The Anti-torque rotor on a Gazelle is a fenestron and they take some getting used to.

Never had the chance to learn to fly helicopters, it sounds awesome, if a little daunting (more so now after this story!)

I did get a few more rotary hours after that incident but not enough to get a feel for flying helicopters, like Churchy said boring bastard, I'll stick to fixed.

Actually thinking about a microlight to keep the hours up and costs down.
