Just heard on the news - the man shot at Stockwell was "nothing to do with the bombings" - he just behaved suspiciously at the wrong time

Its not like it was in dark middle of nowhere where no witnesses could corroborate police's report -- he clearly did try to escape run to the train and got shot as the result. -
Originally posted by AtWHe did not just behave suspiciously -- he jumped over ticket thingy and tried to escape police officers running to the tube: after yesterday's and 7/7 it is totally foolish and I am sure the officers will not be punished as they acted justifiably in this situation.

Atw forgive me but you are sooo stupid, firstly the witnesses all had completely different stories ... did you read the various news websites??
secondly the policemen were wearing civilian clothes, the poor guy may be thought those were thugs trying to beat him for whatever reason, may be he thought they were trying to mug him, he may have slept with someone else's wife and thought this is her husband and his mates, he may have borrowed money from a shark loan and defaulted on the payment and thought were the debt collectors etc etc, infact he could have been a small time thief, all this guy knew is that there were these men who were chasing him, wouldn't you run for your life if you find few big men chasing you???Comment

All witnesses say that the guy was trying to escape police -- he jumped over ticket barrier and run to the train -- that a long way and there was no need to escape unknown men in public place.
If he is not connected to terrorists then he is too fecking stupid to live, he is bound to make Darwin's awards of this year.
The police acted correctly and I am positive they will be vindicated.Comment

Did you actually see it with your own eyes?? did you hear the police men claiming they are police??may be the place was sooo noisy the poor guy did not hear a thing...there were so many conflicting stories that I don't think we'd know what happened exactly
Me ersonally if a civilian clothes guy came knocking on my door there is no way on earth I'd let him in without phoning his office, even if he shows me his ID , how do I know it snot fake???
Also you are forgetting because the guy is not balck he has probably been a target for the police abuse for a long time...
The bottom line is that another innocent victim was killed, people react differently at stressful or panicky situations ,if it was your brother or cross stitching sister, am sure you would think that this was not fair, and am sure you wouldn't say serves her right for trying to run from the two men who were chasing her!!!
But I know that arguing with you is useless, and you would argue forever before you admit that a woman is right and you are wrong..Comment

Put yourself in the shoes of the policemen. You have a suspect that you tell to stop and get on the floor because you are armed police. The guy runs with little wires hanging out of his belt and goes straight for a tube station the day after 4 failed bombing attempts. You give chase shouting at him to stop or you will fire. The guy jumps over the barrier, pegs it down to a train and jumps on. You tell all innocent civilians to get the hell out of there and the now cornered man in a tube carrige still refuses to lie down and strats fiddling with his belt.
What would you do ?
I know what I would do, put one straight between the eyes before he has a chance to set off any device he may be carrying, if he was innicent he wouldn't have run and would definetly have complied when cornered.
Now the above is not going to be a 100% accurate description of what happened because nobody really know all the details yet, but try putting yourself in the position of the police and ask yourself what you would have done.Comment

People should understand simple things:
1) leave racksack unattended - risk getting it destroyed
2) buy lots of chemicals used in bomb making - expect police to show up
3) run away from armed police in the tube next day after attempted bombing -- expect to be shot dead
As example take that other guy with racksack in front of whitehall -- he was ordered to put it away and let himself searched -- this was done under gunpoint, however he did all what he was asked to do and was later let go.
He made it in test of natural selection and that the fkwit in the tube did not.Comment

<<Now the above is not going to be a 100% accurate description of what happened because nobody really know all the details yet, >>
exactly my point, an innocent man was killed (this was announced by the police not me) no one knows what happened, and you and AtW say serves him right...
<<but try putting yourself in the position of the police and ask yourself what you would have done.>>>
I wasn't blaming the police for what happened, but its internationally known that killing an innocent man is wrong, and you think that the guys running away was wrong, two wrongs don't make a right...
my point was I don't like the arrogance of some of you saying serves him right for running, as I said no one knows how they'd react in such a situation...
when I was living in the middle east at high school, we had a bomb threat , and the war between Iraq and Iran was next door, out of the blue the court yard of our school was full of police and army men, believe me every single person, including the teachers and headhmistess ran for their lives, they left everything behind, there was a lot of noise , and everyone was in a shock and panic .. there was no way on earth me and others could have heard anything any of the policemen or the army men were shouting, most of us didnt even know what happened we just saw policemen and army men all over the school and we started running, as I said every single person was just running for their life, no one waited to ask questions!!!
If you have ever been in a rail/underground station you'd know how noisy everything is there .. add panic and running from men who are chasing you, and you can imagine that the guy most likely too busy running aways from the men than actually listening to what they were shouting...
Again I am not blaming the police, its a very unfortunate situation, I consider this man to be another terrorist victim, but am very very suprised with the curel statements here from you peole saying he deserved to die!!!
anyway lets agree to differ... I don't like to see an innocent life wasted, whatever the circumstances... and you obviously do!!!Last edited by SandyDown; 23 July 2005, 18:23.Comment

Mark my words -- the police involved will be completely acquitted.Comment
