If you want to move the argument onto whether the muslim way of life is better than the "British way of life" then maybe you can point to one (just one) muslim country that is more civilised, tolerant, and affluent than Britain. What is more Britain is one of the few countries that tries to make allowances for all types of people. The point being made is that the compromise has gone too far.

You can patronise ethnic groups all you like by spinning the positive aspects of their values, but the downsides (you so neatly forget..such as the subjugation of women, intolerance) are such that the values of their religion transcend logic, debate, humour and democracy.

The whole crux of this thread is basically people being afraid that Muslims are taking over the country.

That's what this is all about isn't it? They can't have a call to prayer out loud!! Not in England!!! Not in Oxford!!! That's our country ruined now - they've won, they've taken our country!!!

This is the basic view point of everyone who is freaking out on this thread (freaking out so much yous are voting for a ******* agent to be PM can I point out!!! That's how far this has got now!!!)

What us "liberals" (as you've labeled us) are trying to say is calm down!! No one is taking over anything!! Oxford will still be Oxford, the country will still be as predominantly white, "pure English", and churchy as always.....nothing is going to change!!! It's just a small group within the community who are applying to voice a prayer call a few times a day for a few minutes at a time.

It's not a war between them and us - or at least, it shouldn't be!! There's enough space for everyone!!

Stop being so afraid of the Muslim community - fear breeds ignorance and hatred (which a lot of you are already into so deep that yous can't even see straight anymore!)

Wrong! My primary objection is noise pollution. I used to live within hearing distance of the East London mosque and the call to prayer is annoying and to my ears depressing with its wailing intonation.
My primary objection is that as an atheist I shouldn't have to listen to religious cults. I bet they'd complain if I walked round with a loudspeaker saying "God doesn't exist you feckwits, go home, nothing to see here"
