The church does not run this country, nor does it really try to. I am interested to hear you explain to the contrary. Extremist elements of Islam on the other hand are trying to exert control over this country. We already tolerate these extremists preaching at mosques, so it is hardly surprising that alarm bells (pardon the pun)start to ring when muslims start to want mosques to send out calls to prayer.

OK, the Church probably doesn't run the country - but it certainly influences it, and that's always frightened me.

All the high up people (PM's, law lords, monarchy, high profile quango members, back benchers) the people who have the power to influence things massively in this country are nearly always god botherers.

And to think that their religion doesn't influence their decision making, is very nieve in my opinion.

The church or religion may influence decision making at the top, however we are free to ridicule, satarise or expose doctrines, decisions ideologies as we wish. In practical terms anyone who stands up and tries to argue anything from a religious perspective (which serious politician would ever dare stand up and argue against the use of contraceptives for example?) is laughed at or not taken at all seriously. And this is how we have evolved to become the society that so many people wish to join.

What is more frightening is that we are expected to treat other religions and religious leaders differently to our own, and that is the compromise that frightens me.
