Great! no more smelly clothes when coming home from the pub!

I would have to take a shower before the wife would let me close to her and the nipper.

You are free to indulge in any of these, as your indulgence does not affect people who do not. And you can smoke provided you don't expose other people to your smoke. What's the issue? And if you want to "lock ourselves in climate controlled pods and run on a treadmill whilst eating lettuce." please feel free.

            Spot on.

Being a slave to the weed is no fun anyway. The ban might help people quit, the majority of smokers want to anyway but since fags are always available, the willpower caves. If you do quit, you won't look back and wonder what all the fuss is about.

                And dont call me Shirley
                Shirley,

Smoking IS a drug addiction...as such you have no choice about giving it up! If you did have the choice to give it up there wouldn't be any smokers anymore cause everyone would have given up by now (especially now there is no excuse to NOT know about the side effects of this drug addiction!).

Also, the smoke companies have increased nicotine in smokes so as to make them even more addictive and harder to give up (since nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to man).

Admit it Shirley, you are a drug addict!

I agree bans are not a good thing per se, but sometimes they are the only solution. Education quite simply does not work effectively enough due to the selfish nature of so many of the nicotine addicts.
Take your time Shaun mate, you might have to get a grown up to explain as it involves thinking.

Your argument could be applied to any number of things. Why should cyclist put up with the polution from cars? Is a similar argument.

The point is that you have had a choice for years. You have failed to exercise that choice.
You have known for years that secondary smoking is damaging you and yet you have continued to risk your health by going in smokey pubs (what was that about weak willd smokers).

If non smokers realy felt the need then they would have refused to drink in smokey pubs or would have opened no smoking pubs. They have been able to do this forever. They have chosen not to.

These choices have now been removed from the smokers. Due to the selfishness of non smokers demanding that all public places are made smoke free the smokers have nowhere to go except outside.
A determined smoker can not open a smokers pub.

It is the removal of this freedom by people who chose not to exercise the same freedom that annoys me.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

So the majority should exercise their "right" to forego the pleasures of drinking in their local boozer so that the selfish feeble-minded nicotine addicted tossers can have the run of the place?
Just exactly what is it that YOU are smoking TLG?

Nobody has asked you to give up drinking Shaun.
You could always go and stand outside which is the option you are giving the smokers. If it is good enough for them then why not for you?

You have always had the option of opening a non smoking pub yourself. This is a choice that you are not giving the smokers.

If you care so much about your health and the stink on your clothes why have you not done anything about it for the last 30 years (at a guess)?

                      SO lets clarify.
They should give up going to the pub (something you wont do).
They should go outside (something you wont do).
They can not open a pub which allows smoking where you could open a no smoking pub.
Where do you get smokers are selfish from?
