    Nationwide AGM voting

    Nothing to do with contracting

Most of us ignore elections for directors for financial organisations, but if you're a Nationwide member, pay a little more attention. For the first time in over 20 years a member has been nominated to the board. The board have recommended to vote against his appointment and provided a quick "accept board's recommendations" box for the lazy. Anyway I reckon he deserves a crack, so if you're a member, do have a look at the voting papers and perhaps make the effort to support a member being on the board of what is supposed to be a membership organisation. You can scan the QR code in your pack and do it with a couple of clicks.

I saw the email yesterday and was going to see what rationale the board had for a no vote. My immediate instinct was "don't tell me what to do!"

I now have to dig out my paperwork.

I gave up voting as the board gets what the board wants.

Ok, I have taken a little time to look at this. (I'm juggling several bin lids at the moment, so nice to get a little change).
Normally I would stay out of this.
I'm fairly ambivalent about Nationwide even though a member/low key customer (accounts get very little use).
Nationwide tends to do what it says on the tin.
I did have concerns about the appointment of a certain Nationwide chief exec back in the day and voiced them in private circles with listening ears and was proved largely correct.

Nationwide does have a need for a "members - members representative" on its board.

The board is largely competent in my opinion. My opinion of the current SMT is largely the same. I have seen a large number of far worse boards/SMT's

I have had a squint at this chaps CV and also had a chat with a chum who is someone more in the know than I (we needed to speak today about another matter anyway).
This guy seems like a jolly japers chap. The CV is okay and but it is not amazing. At the top end the cv is lacking in my opinion for a directorship at an organisation such as Nationwide.
Nationwide does have members who have this top end and ability and I know of at least two personally. (desire for role and availability are probably another story on this one.)
On this basis I will stay out of it. I will wish him good luck with his endeavours.
