Contract due to end at the end of April

just been told by the client that the contract will end at the end of April

so looking for a new one

always like looking for a new one, a new company to play with, to see how they do their stuff, new people to meet and get to know

the mrs always says, don't take the first one

current client wants me to stay available in some capacity they started saying like 50 percent I said I can't do that the mrs will kill me, so probably some kind of 20 or 25 percent for them ongoing kerching

for a split second i though about kind of semi retiring and doing 50 percent for them which sounds romantic like having time for hobbies but I know in reality it will mean the mrs giving me a list of jobs around the house to get done and really these days as long as the people play nicely, the tape changing is just a hobby

so in the end that split second though lasted a split second and I am looking to continue the tape changing hobby with a full time contract and as long as the new colleagues know how to behave and are nice i'll be happy

so let's see how long it takes to get the next one and who it will be for and where it will be

talked to an agency yesterday about a role that is a 100% fit pure tape changing they asked the rate I added thirty percent on to what I have now and they've gone quiet

the mrs wants the next one to be in barcelona with me doing one week a month on site so that she can come with me from time to time

contracting is a great hobby isn't it

    Milan.

My contract is also pencilled in to end at the end of April. I don't do tape changing, I do crayon drawings.

Not sure what I'll pick up next. The market isn't all that great. I really need to pull my finger out and sort out my Irish passport so I can steal crayons from the EU folks.

I'd get a shift on then. Not sure whether you already have Irish citizenship but, if not, they're saying it can take up to 9 months to process. My daughters have all been waiting since August last year and still no news. When I got my passport a few years ago it only took a few months but, if you have to do both, you could be looking at a year from now till you can steal those EU crayons.

Currently on track to finish on 4th April and a week off booked next week with only very loose talk of extension to finish off the bits I am working on. Perm PM's scratching around for work so I suspect that's the end of this but it's been 18 months so ….

Be interesting to experience the tougher market first hand.

good luck I had a call today with an agent for a similar role as I am doing at the moment so let's see what happens

the tape changing .net market is on fire and expected to be for the next ten years so that should take me well in to retirement or semi retirement whatever that all mean

Haha I just need to eke out another five years as a Infra PM. Surely got to be enough DC migrations / cloud migrations etc to keep me busy till then

Rather you than me. I'm dreading the end of my current gig. Absolutely F all out there for service management stuff. I've been watching for months. A couple that I'd take if I was desperate but not a single good one I might even consider jumping for. Not good at all.

I need to get on the forrin births register first so, yes, I've got a while before I can go crayon stealing.

Oi MB! In reality 50% does not mean easing yourself into retirement. You know as well as I do that you'll end up doing 80% of your normal work for 50% of the rate. Your current client is trying to pull a fast one.
