The latest chatbots are Intelligent, just a different type of intelligence from us. They are no longer Artificial, they are some different form of real intelligence.

What they are not is conscious/sentient/self aware in the way we are. That is because we don't know how consciousness comes about, so have no idea how to re create it either. Although we can program the AI to say act like it is self aware and conscious.

Personally i think our organic brains can tap into the conscious nature of the universe, while computers are just electrical signals without that ability yet.

The clever stuff is more what I'd call machine learning and still isn't intelligent because it requires a human to process the outputs. So, things like new drug formulations, x-ray / MRI scan analysis, air traffic movements, weather stuff, etc are all super cutting edge number crunching and probability machines but they don't provide the insights or intelligence although they are good at spotting anomalies and trends.
Exactly. Not intelligence in any form at all but it does fool the dim-witted.

Heuristic pattern interpretation algorithms combined with a natural language-based search engine. Essentially, if it's been said before it can say it again to you - an NPC aggregator of sorts. It won't "solve" problems though, unless some human solved it and put it on the web first.

As already so eloquently discussed in the other replies AI is anything but intelligence and will summon the end of human advancement if utilised as some sort of panacea as all its doing is regurgitating and spinning what we already have The latest Chinese AI is nothing but a propaganda tool.

If you train a dog to detect drugs or explosives is the dog intelligent because of the training? Or just well trained? Of course it is just well trained. The dog however is an intelligence whether trained or not.

As above it needs to become self aware which is the destination for AI. We are nowhere near that yet. Plenty of Sci Fi writers have discussed this for years.

Let us revere the words of the Prophet Clarke and understand that most people don't.

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”

So yes training machines is just ML. AI is just ML with the safety off allowed to make assumptions based on whatever they are trained on so basically a leftie or rightie loon.

I agree but I suspect like the stuff our government buy from china it will have been infected.

                Basically Neural Networking on acid.

                  The AS Project
The concept of Artificial Stupidity (AS) may initially seem counterintuitive, given the current fervor surrounding the advancements of Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, exploring the advantages of AS can shed light on its potential benefits for humanity and technology itself. At its core, AS refers to intentionally designing systems or algorithms that prioritize simplicity, reliability, and predictability over complexity and intelligence. This can lead to several valuable outcomes.

One of the most significant advantages of AS is its ability to enhance user trust and interaction. By creating systems that exhibit less complex decision-making processes, users can feel more in control and have a clearer understanding of how decisions are made. This can be especially crucial in high-stakes environments, such as healthcare or finance, where the opacity of AI-driven decisions can lead to anxiety or distrust. Simple, straightforward systems can offer transparency, allowing users to see the reasoning behind a decision without getting lost in layers of intricate algorithms.

Furthermore, AS can contribute to enhanced safety and robustness in critical applications. Systems that operate on simple rules can be less prone to unexpected behaviors or errors that might arise from more advanced AI models. In scenarios where safety is paramount—such as autonomous driving, aviation, or industrial automation—designing systems that err on the side of caution with plainly defined parameters reduces the risk of catastrophic failure. This reliability can be especially beneficial during the early adoption phases of new technologies, where uncertainty is high.

Additionally, Artificial Stupidity can support innovation and creativity in problem-solving. By limiting the problem-solving capacity of an algorithm, developers and users may be encouraged to step outside their typical paradigms and explore unconventional solutions. This can foster collaboration between human intelligence and artificial systems, promoting an environment where human oversight and creativity play a central role in addressing complex challenges. In many cases, the juxta-position of "simple" AI with human ingenuity may yield innovative outcomes that more sophisticated systems could overlook.

In conclusion, while the focus remains significantly on enhancing AI capabilities, the exploration of Artificial Stupidity presents a novel perspective on technology design. By emphasizing simplicity, reliability, and clarity, AS can improve user experience, enhance safety in critical applications, and promote innovative thinking. Embracing the principles of AS may ultimately lead to a more balanced integration of technology into everyday life, where human and machine capabilities complement rather than compete with each other.

it amazes me the velocity of the enterprise technology these days, and it is so interesting and there's so much to learn and play with, my contracting has become my hobby and to be honest, it's so interesting, it's almost a shame that during the coming ten years I'll be retiring

these days in the enterprise technology we're are just getting paid to play with new stuff at a velocity that I've never seen in my career and so wide and so deep

                      what's not to like
