Silver lining behind radiators. Is this still a thing?

At last! Someone said it. That took longer than I thought. Thank you MF for coming back and showing this rabble what the forum used to be like it's glory days!

I was wondering why nobody had piped up and said it!! Nobody does memes these days in case they are accused of something dodgy. Stabbity Stab........

I'm no expert, but jumpers and coats don't produce as much heat on a fire as coal.

Actually yes it is a thing. I just insulated the integral garage (INKSPE it stopped the Butler moaning) door and the whole house is much better. Took me a day and £20 of insulation plus some 6mm ply (recovered from another project) Snow on the ground and the martini is naturally warm!

Otherwise you heat the fabric of the building and hope it slowly gets warm.

Off to ALDI and buy their £12.99 0.6 x 7.5m bubble insulated rolls, they are about 2 weeks in so will go on sale soon. The flat roof in the extension is getting some love then.

By pushing the heat away from the wall you get a bit of Brownian motion, that sadly isn't B'ruin floating down the river. You want heat to circulate and heat the whole house not the bit behind the wall. Add a radiator fan and you might get near instant heat.

Wrap your bath as well and enjoy the kind of self love that you deserve! That is one upgrade on the list, now if I can get the kids wife to buzz off while I enjoy a nice bath with all the trimmings chilled white wine, chocolates and a decent book/podcast..

The British Board of Agrément confirms that Radflek can reduce heat transfer by up to 45%.

a ROI in 2.7 years with this and decent cavity wall insulation. For a couple of quid & 1 hour per radiator that is pretty good most projects I get stuck with don't get those returns however much they twist the sums.

Cheers for that. I think I'm gonna go ahead for nothing more than my peace of mind. It would be highly likely I can tell the difference if it's a few percent here or there but I think if I know I've done what I can and it's doing something, however small, then it will help.

Gonna try a system where I just hang the insulation material from a thin pole that just sits on the brackets rather than trying to stick it to the wall behind the radiator for the time being.

If nothing else it will keep me warm working on the project
