I was helping a friend look for short term accomodation in the Stratford-Leytonstone corridor, when I came across this ad where a live-out landlord wanted "pure vegetarian" tenants only. I've never come across that before. I know what vegetarian means but wth is "pure".
Google told me that the landlord's name was a common Indian name so I asked an Indian colleague if he knew what it meant.
He told me it's code for upper caste Hindus or extreme vegetarian Hindus who are typically seen as 'clean' by other similar types.
If you're a live-in landlord I can understand a preference for people who won't cook meat in the house. But I struggle to think of any good reason that a live-out landlord would have to be bothered about their tenant's eating habits.
