V beat me to it. We have a lot of elderly people because of a big boom in the population after WW2. So we fix that with another big boom in population?

Again there are other publications available with the figures. We aren't the only country struggling with making immigration work.
Mrs May despite her lack of dancing skills highlighted the shortage a decade ago. Few Political parties linked the growth of population to lack of houses as it was seen as inflammatory.
I don't remember any manifestos saying "we will increase the UK population by 10-20% in a vain hope we won't end up with ghettos, ignore the lack of services and the immigrants will allow us to keep wages down for none tax paying internationals".
That kind of thinking has now been exposed as a problem and we see right wing groups rising across Europe. The current political decisions by the main parties are encouraging them.
Crime costs a significant amount to Police.
As above being Albanian is a good indicator of being in prison seems one in six are in prison now.

Stabbing / shooting random people over drugs tends to be far more common among African heritage youths.
etc..
That is rather my point the Government visa program is foolish, they are now finally doing something about illegal migration and people fleeing the horror of France. They need to do the calculations and see if legal migration for shortage occupations at lower wages makes sense - hint it doesn't. If want to continue it they need to build houses & hospitals for the new arrivals.
We are about to enter a recession / job shortage of epic proportions we have a large number of imported labour that will have less chance of working at high level.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

I wonder how economically productive immigrants are compared to Brits of working age? Anecdotally, they seem harder working. Maybe immigration is beneficial to the economy.
Now if only we could get expatriate our home grown work shy in equal numbers.Comment

Technology is your friend. All people who are in receipt of benefits and not working have to do courses and meetings daily via zoom. Cost ~ £50 for an Amazon etc tablet plus £300 a day for a teacher with 50 people online. Assuming the teacher encourages one attendee a month to get a job they will pay their way.
All payments for employment or services > £50 need to go via banks failure to do so gets HMRC involved. Large transactions need to be declared so if you pay £1000 for a new patio or drive the bank asks you why.
Report on these two and you will be surprised how many cash in hand jobs there are.
Sanction those who don't take it seriously.

Is there any chance that this is a “let’s blame immigrants for us failing to build the promised 300,000 new houses a year”
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics...es-dead-water/
There’s always someone to blame, and it’s never the right wing government who just laugh at their followers who lap up everything they say, and respond with “Yes, it’s not your fault, it’s always someone else. The right are always blameless”…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

It seems the "filthy right wing tories" built more houses than the "Sainted lefties" who opened mass immigration across Europe to rub the right wings nose in it. Lord Mandleslime of the dodgy mortgages memorably sent out search parties to undercut British labour.

The wisdom of not controlling immigration is open to debate as it seems to be upsetting the locals across Europe.
I have said many times if I lived in a poorer country and I could legally emigrate to earn a rockstar salary for waiting tables with free healthcare I would be a fool not to.
I don't know why you are blaming immigrants that seems a bit unfair! Many of the homeless are foreign nationals.
Do get ready for anti immigration commitments from most parties in the next few years.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

Also, the standard of living in a lot of those former Eastern block countries (Poland, Lithuania etc) improved a lot in the noughties, so they didn't need to be here anymore. Even before the referendum, farmers where we live were finding it increasingly difficult to attract workers from the EU."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment
