What made M$ hit the ‘Eject’ button so quickly? (I don’t believe that they didn’t know about this…)

“Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities,” the board’s statement said. What Altman had allegedly hidden from his company’s board was not clear.
There is a lot of pressure in start ups to show the best 'face' not the truth, similar to big bids it does sound like the copyright issues on AI are about to explode.
Yep, it does sound as if they’re trying to get ahead of whatever is about to hit the fan.

Microsoft don't have a board seat.
Ilya Sutskever took him out.
"This was the board doing its duty to the mission of the nonprofit, which is to make sure that OpenAI builds AGI that benefits all of humanity," Sutskever told employees at an emergency all-hands meeting on Friday afternoon.
EDIT: Rumours are he is going to reinstated.

Those rumours are still swirling, it sounds as if investors (including Microsoft) were annoyed at this power play.
So I wonder what has caused this bust-up, just a power grab or something else? Much has been lost and not much gained from the weekend’s shenanigans.

Latest: Microsoft hires Sam Altman to lead advanced AI research.
Ilya Sutskever doesn't come over as the kind of person interested in power. It looks like this might be more about AI safety.
Its easy to forget how dangerous AI actually will be once it reaches a level way above humans. Which will happen sometime in the next 5 to 30 years.
Yep, that’s what the CNN article alludes to.

And since Altman is a big public advocate for regulation, and the board accused him of not being honest in his comms, and what with his rapid switch to Microsoft (a huge with-profits company)…
Maybe the public and private beliefs don’t quite align?
