    This is why...

..it is wise to pay for somethings yourself.

Yep a tale about one Boris Johnson.

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics...rs-in-lockdown

Boris Johnson has been referred to police by the Cabinet Office over claims that he broke lockdown rules by hosting family and friends at Chequers during Covid.
The visits to the former prime minister’s grace-and-favour residence were found in his official diary by his government-funded lawyers as they prepared his defence for the public inquiry into the pandemic.

They raised the issue with senior officials in the Cabinet Office, who then referred the matter to police as they were obliged to do under the civil service code, and also to the privileges committee, which is investigating whether Johnson lied to the Commons over Partygate.

I, for one, wish they'd stop spaffing millions on chasing a political target, and spend the same on trying to recover the estimated £2,000M+ fraudulently claimed furlow payments.

I wish Boris Johnson had been made to pay for his own bloody lawyers rather than making us pay for them.

If he had the lawyers would not have a duty to report to the civil service who act on behalf of us what they found and the police wouldn't have had to be told.

They have a duty to consider whether or not to report it to the Cabinet Office, who in turn have a similar duty towards reporting it to the police. From what's being said, it seems likely that even a cursory read of the detail would have shown there ware no really compelling reasons to do either. It's all a complete waste of time and effort anyway, and won't make bugger all difference to the outcomes of the PAC conclusions, where Harperson has already considered her verdict of guilty.

Still, he's binned them now, and is using his own people.

I'm glad you are sure of the detail when others aren't.

"Oh look, according to official diary entries, the PM has held meetings with other ministers and officials in his official work place, so he must have broken the law on meetings during the covid restrictions period so let's get the police involved to find out what really happened despite all those actually there insisting the rules covering such meetings were followed."

Sound familiar? Other than creating a storm in yet another teacup, what exactly is the point? What do they hope to achieve other than wasting a lot more police time and distracting No 10 from doing their real job?

While we're at it, let's prosecute Churchill for being drunk in charge of the War Cabinet.

                  Utterly pathetic.
