The other problem is that we are two generations into a period of little understanding of debt management and expectation of a living standard above what is affordable by using cheap credit to fund it. How many foodbank habitues have Sky, smartphones and the rest I wonder...
I took your comments seriously until you mentioned Sky and smartphones.

Most people have broadband and things like Netflix on shared accounts. However Covid showed that the poorest houses that used foodbanks frequently didn't have that.

Smartphones are very cheap particularly someone's second hand iPhone or an android one. In modern life if you don't have any access to the internet you are screwed.

I'm not saying crap food can't be cheap, I think we had a McDonalds last year and I was suprised you could get two meals so cheapily. But you can buy healthy food that's not too expensive and can make several meals out of it, healthy and cost effective. We do that all the time but that's because we know how to cook and store food.

I would venture that a lot of people who could live more frugally and in fact healthily are too lazy to put in the required effort to prepare the food they consume.

        imo - of course.

Ah. It's laziness. It can't simply be that no one has taught them (or they're not smart enough to figure out) how. Nor that, when you're poor, if you **** up and spend too much, it's really hard to recover.

And it couldn't possible that the council has housed you and your family in a hotel or B&B that doesn't allow cooking?

Sheesh. This isn't difficult to understand. Are you sure you're not the lazy one (intellectually)? Or do you simply lack any empathy and understanding? (It's ok, I just put it down to you being a grade A prat. I'd say it's not your fault, but that would be needlessly insulting your parents).

Your left-wing leanings are coming to the fore. I didn't say that all people with bad eating habits were lazy. However, if someone was never taught how to cook properly given the number of healthy and economical eating programmes that have been on TV or books that are available in public libraries if they pull their finger out they'll learn.

Not everything is someone else's fault.

I have noticed the ever decreasing weight of products, the latest being Lurpak Butter 200gm instead of 259gm

its funny how different parents of minded kids choose food for their children. Some lunchboxes are a sea of healthy choices others make turkey twizzlers look like high cuisine.

Frequently the better choices are from the more professional parents.

Training people to cook good food at school seems sensible.

Are you people still taking these traitors seriously? They are just spouting stuff to keep us busy while they cancel our children's futures, imagining they and their families will escape on the life-raft.
