It seems the chance of losing the election has focussed their mind

There is "no good reason" the UK cannot train its own lorry drivers and fruit pickers to bring immigration down, Suella Braverman has said.

Addressing a conference in London, the home secretary argued it was "not racist" to want to control borders.

She has previously said her "ultimate aspiration" is to reduce net migration - the difference between those entering and leaving the UK - to below 100,000.

It is expected to hit a record 700,000 this year.

The member for the 17th century is talking about automating fruit picking. Talk about heresy, we really need foreigners to pick fruit because the "Brits are lazy"

However, moments after Downing Street’s announcement on May 19, the Pick for Britain website crashed. Eager applicants were redirected to a blank page stating “this website is unavailable”.

A government spokesperson explained the glitch occurred due to a significant surge in demand, with visitors increasing from 2,000 to more than 160,000 during the news conference.
Luckily we built 180,000 homes so they only need to be 4 per dwelling ignoring any other population pressures.

Even better Sir Snotty announced that voter ID backfired on the Tories.

Mmm didn't they realise that only reliably vote in local elections hence the 25-40% turn outs?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65599380

Jacob Rees-Mogg has suggested the Conservatives introduced voter ID to boost their election chances, but it came "back to bite them".

The former minister said it had "made it hard for our own voters" to take part in England's local elections.

The polls on 4 May were the first in Britain where people had to show photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, to vote.

Mr Rees-Mogg said the change had "upset a system that worked perfectly well."

The government says the new voter ID rules are necessary to tackle voter fraud, and boost public confidence in elections.

But Mr Rees-Mogg told the BBC there was no evidence that the issue of voter fraud was a "serious problem" - something the government's opponents have long argued.

Last week's local elections saw the Conservatives lose more than 1,000 councillors and control of 48 councils, with Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens all making gains at the expense of Rishi Sunak's party.

Oh gawd they have really lost it.

      https://www.theguardian.com/politics...e-miriam-cates

A Conservative MP has claimed the UK’s low birthrate is the most pressing policy issue of the generation and is caused in part by “cultural Marxism” stripping young people of any hope, at the start of a populist-tinged conference in London.

Addressing the National Conservatism gathering, run by a US-based thinktank, Miriam Cates said western countries faced an existential threat from falling reproduction, arguing that a lack of family-friendly tax policy in the UK played a significant role, as well as a shortage of housing.

But Cates, seen as a rising star in a new generation of culture-war keen Tory MPs, also blamed too many young people attending university, the devaluing of motherhood, and what she described as the mass indoctrination of young minds.

“Having a home, a secure job and support from your family, community and nation are not the only conditions to starting a family,” Cates told the event in Westminster.

“You must also have hope for the future. And that hope is not reaching so many of our young people today, because liberal individualism has proved to be completely powerless to resist a cultural Marxism that is systematically destroying our children’s souls.”

“When culture, schools and universities openly teach that our country is racist, our heroes are villains, humanity is killing the Earth, you are what you desire, diversity is theology, boundaries are tyranny and self-restraint is oppression, is it any wonder that mental health conditions, self-harm and suicide, and epidemic levels of anxiety and confusion characterise the emerging generation?”

Asked whether Rishi Sunak agreed with this latter concern, Downing Street appeared to say this was the case, referring to recent concerns Cates had raised with the prime minister over sex education in schools.

“We recognise there is significant concern in this and that’s why that the DfE [Department for Education] is working through additional guidance for schools and support for teachers,” Sunak’s official spokesperson said.

The use of “cultural Marxism” as a description by the Penistone and Stocksbridge MP is controversial because it is a term referring to a conspiracy theory often associated with the far right and antisemitism.

When Suella Braverman, the home secretary – who is addressing the conference later on Monday – used the phrase in a 2019 speech, she was criticised by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

Cates’s argument for a higher birthrate echoes those made by European populist leaders such as Hungary’s Viktor Orbán and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, although they are explicit about contrasting this with what they see as a parallel threat from immigration.

Net migration was 500,000 last year and looks like it could be a million this year.

Looks like Rishi will be promising to push it down substantially to just below 800,000.

It’s a mirror image of Florida, DeSantis has put in draconian immigration laws and now the immigrants have buggered off, leaving Floridians without orange-pickers, gardeners, pool-cleaners and nannies. The horror!

(Of course no American wants to do these jobs because of labour abuse and horrible pay.)

So maybe the labour abuse will decrease and the horrible pay will increase.

The downtrodden will always be abused, I don't see any signs of a socialist nirvahna on the horizon.

have to agree with Ziggy abuse of illegals or disadvantaged will happen especially if they are plentiful. The first thing the left say when there is a shortage because conditions are crap is lets up immigration.

Mechanise much of the farm work not fill caravans with cheap foreign labour paying rent to the farmer.
