Now Netflix have upset the Egyptians

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...hite-skin.html

Egyptian government says Cleopatra was NOT black: Officials slap down Netflix for 'blackwashing' pharaoh as they say she 'had white skin and Hellenistic features' - and docudrama is 'a falsification of Egyptian history'
    • The new docuseries, African Queens: Queen Cleopatra, stars black British actress Adele James as the Egyptian ruler
    • The trailer has drawn a furious backlash for featuring claims from historians who assert that Cleopatra was black and had 'curly hair'
    • Egyptian Authorities have now slapped down Netflix and ascertain the ruler 'had white skin'
    ....

Dr. Nasser Mekkawy, Head of the Egyptian Department of Archeology at Cairo University added that Cleopatra's appearance would have been light-skinned due to her Macedonian origins
He said that Cleopatra descended from an ancient Macedonian dynasty that ruled Egypt for nearly 300 years.

The Ministry also said that anthropology studies and DNA studies conducted on mummies and bones confirmed that Egyptians do not bear the features of South-Saharan Africans.
Its like the Egyptians are all racists

Are there not any African stories we can dramatize?

They actually don't know what Cleopatra looks like simply as the racial categories used today in the West weren't used by the Egyptians (or anyone else) at that time.

Oh and Egypt is in the continent of Africa...

      The Lion King?

We could cast a Capybara as the lead.

Yeah but with a Capybara playing the Lion!

There's a lion in Hamlet? Exeunt pursued by lion or something?

Plenty but imagine the uproar if anyone else but a black person is cast for it. It seems to be that any historic character can now be played/depicted as a black person regardless of real race but no one in their right mind would do it the other way around.

What, like Anthony Hopkins in the 1981 BBC production?

                Or Patrick Stewart?

However, I'll point out, as I did before, that Othello's ethnicity is part of the plot. That means you can change it if you want for artistic reasons, but normally you'd be expected to stay with the ethnicity. Where the ethnicity is historically inaccurate but has nothing to do with the story otherwise, you can have a Klingon in the role. It doesn't matter to the story.

Lovecraft's stories have been neglected because he was vicious racist. I'd love to see the Mountains of Madness with a black guy in the hero's role. Why? Because it would repudiate Lovecraft's revolting attitudes, but nonetheless celebrate the artistry of his imagination and story telling. Something that enriches all of humanity.

They do which is why I referenced one of the world's Egyptology experts who confirmed she was fair skinned confirmed by DNA tests.

It is Indeed on the continent of Africa and they were buying black slaves from African kings in 2600 BCE (like 4 millennia before us Brits turned up) , there are historical records and everything.

I suspect Captains Kirk & Picard might beg to differ. .

Now a Gorn, that would be a completely different matter. .
