The French have, numerous time, offered for the British to have a processing center at Calais so that asylum claims could be vetted and those that don't pass the grade, sent back to where they came from yet the Tory government has refused this offer each time. Why?Originally posted by malvolio View Post
We have never been against immigration of people who want to join us or who are seeking genuine asylum for various reasons (ask all those Ugandan Asians), but that does not mean we mustn't have any kind of control over or vetting of people who do so.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

Yes, that is the other side of the argument. I know that all perfetly well thanks.
If you apply it all migrant incomers then it is even fairly valid (although I don't recall seeing the 100 million figure anywhere; given there are only about 62m already here that destroys your credibility somewhat), However apply it to the people in the small boats coming here illegally through a highly dangerous route and ignoring the perfectly valid routes they could have taken and then HMG's position (supported by a huge proportion of the general public; those who don't live in Islington perhaps) are in favour of the proposed actions.
.
Scott Benton, MP for Blackpool South, told the Commons: “Our public services are already creaking under enormous pressure and we simply can’t accept hundreds of millions of people who would no doubt look to come here for a better life. I’m afraid this country is nearly full.”“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

The trouble here is that many of the British public are as thick as tulip and take that to be the truth because it was said by someone who is meant to be in a position of responsibility. Remember the 80 million Turkish people who wanted to come to the UK used by the Leave campaign: https://www.channel4.com/news/factch...endum-campaign or even ****** Farage's poster. It's just more lies from the right used to sow hatred and division...Originally posted by malvolio View PostLike I said, don't confuse propagandist sound bites with reality.
