    • A mother has explained how her husband booked her economy seats on a flight
    • While his company pays for him to be in business class on the long haul flight

I was gonna comment on this but looking at most of the top comments on DM and all the Mumsnet comments I appear to be in a minority so I'll keep schtum

It seems the issue is he said he'd get premium economy for her and sprog, but didn't.

Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

It does so, he's an lying devious git, which seems to be what everyone is jumping on. Or she's a self entitled nightmare and the only way he was going to pull this off was to go ahead and do it and lie because it's easier to deal with the fall out than it is to try discuss it. Some of the points she's complaining about certainly support this.

Or it could be a bit of both but who knows. It's on mumsnet where posts are usually well rounded with the facts from both sides presented and the user base is open minded enough to give an ubiased opinion. Ah sorry no, I'm wrong. Cut his balls off and divorce him! Yes that's the anwer.

If he lied to her then he's in the wrong, regardless. Nothing in the story suggests she's "self entitled" - quite reasonable to say "travelling LH solo with a young child is hard work, it's not worthwhile without a decent seat". I would understand her saying she doesn't want to come if it means flying economy.

THe best way to make your wife a horrible person is to treat her horribly.

When you fly business your first and only responsibility is to your fellow business class passengers, not to the scum behind the curtain.

Possibly but mybe they are just in that type of relationship and it takes two to tango. Some relationships both sides just do it as it's easier to smooth over the after effect than it is to arrange it. I know a couple like this. It's just rubbish looking in from the outside but they've been together for a long time. Like bickering couples. Seems awful to me but it's what they do.
I just don't like some of the points she's made and the facts she's had to take it to mumsnet expecting a reasonable response. I don't see an issue with the seats she's got, could be better but that's life and she is now aware premium is 2k more and that's one way. Laps it up in business class is hardly a measured response. Doubting they can swap mid flight is wholly wrong and if she'd get that point right this would be a whole different story. I've been in a similar situation, no child though, and I was more than happy to swap seats for a good period of the flight. We couldn't at take off and landing mind. I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable compromise to be had but it sounds like she's not willing to hear it. Economy seats with a good plan on childcare and sleep in business class is perfectly reasonable.

To be fair so much missing to be able to make a proper decision though, particularly his side of the story. It's a work trip not a family holiday, its a bonus she can come so no point spending full holiday money on it. Why would he do that when he doesn't get to enjoy it fully. We don't know why he's lied, where they are going, their financial situation or anything. I'd question why they are taking a 2 year old on a 14 hour flight as well to be honest. I've just a feeling his side of the story would paint a whole different picture.

Must be fairly senior or small company to get business class. When my old company sent me to south Africa I got premium economy that was a few grand. Only C level got Business class. Some companies have been open to taking the family and switching to economy with you paying the difference.

As you say its mumsnet so expect some misandry.

Just do it and fix it later - not if you have met Mrs V and want to keep your knackers.

Well maybe lots of things but with nothing in the story to suggest it "maybe she's just awful" seems to indicate a bias?

Edit : redone my reply and after discussing this with my other half you are probably right. I've got it wrong. She does see the similarities to my friends and our experience but I am reaching too far and also I haven't considered the 2 year old never having kids myself. She's says he's also a bumhole but also thinks there is more to this. If there isn't then he is indeed a complete winker.
