From a proper news source (mumsnet)- what would you ban?

What would YOU ban from society? People reveal the annoyances that 'shouldn't be allowed' - from clothes sizes that are different in every shop to dogs off the lead and inheritance tax
    • People have discussed things that shouldn't be allowed in society on Mumsnet
    • The anonymous woman shared her thoughts and asked others for their opinions
    • Many rushed to the comments with their ideas of what 'shouldn't be allowed'
    • One person said woman’s clothing sizes shouldn’t be determined by shops
    some ideas to argue over

The woman wrote: 'Following on from the petrol price thread (and in true Victor Meldrew style) what do you think shouldn't be allowed...I'll kick off with the following:

'Petrol should be the same price from a retailer no matter where you buy it from. Nothing should ever be double taxed (Petrol again....Fuel Duty and VAT!)

'All displayed prices for anything should be inclusive of VAT. A council should not be able to get away with paying for damage caused by potholes by saying, 'we are aware and it's due to be fixed'

'Electricity and gas prices should be easy to understand. The same goes for water (who last bought a cubic metre of water from a shop when they wanted a drink?)

'If someone is sentenced to life for murder, this should mean for the rest of their life, not to be released after 10, 15, 20 years etc....'
'You should be able to buy foods/drinks with sugar in if you choose to. Forcing sweeteners on people shouldn’t be allowed.'

Another said: 'Shops being able to choose how to size women's clothes. The sizes should be standard so I can shop online and know if I'm a 10 or 16. Also, women's jeans must have proper pockets.'
Many went down the political route saying MPs shouldn't be allowed to have two jobs or deviate from their manifesto.

One wrote: 'Politicians should not be allowed to deviate from the party manifesto.'

Another said: 'MPs having 2nd jobs.'

Meanwhile others had an issue with pets roaming around freely, saying they should be on a lead.

One person wrote: 'Dogs of leads in public parks. They should have a separate section. Not everyone likes dogs and or standing in their sh**.'

Another said: 'Letting cats just wonder the streets and do the toilet in peoples gardens. Wouldn’t be acceptable for dogs so why cats?'

While someone else wrote: 'I agree with you and I have had many large dogs over the years but the one thing that has always annoyed me is when there is dog poo in the park or on the road.

'I never went anywhere without the poop bags and in my opinion there should be huge fines given to owners who do not pick up their dogs poo, just like we get expensive parking fines.'

    any ideas?
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

I can relate to most of that but it is fanciful to think it would ever happen. However, I was in NI last week and noticed petrol at £1.42 per litre and Diesel at £1.48. (Same tax level as the rest of the UK).

The one that winds up our villagers is fireworks. Let off a single firework outside the single, 30 minute period that they deem acceptable and the village FB groups are awash with "why are people so selfish, don't they know I have a dog?" and "Fireworks should be banned" and "Last time I checked it was November 6th today" and "If my horse hurts itself panicking you will be paying the vet bill".

And this is if you set of a firework at 7pm on Saturday, not 3am on Monday. You can literally hear a bang and login to Facebook, play a game how many minutes it will be until the whinging starts.

Almost makes one want to buy some specially.

I don't remember being forced to buy food/drinks with sweeteners. I'm pretty sure I can buy things with sugar in.

Why would I want to see VAT-inclusive prices when my company is VAT-registered?

I would ban encouraging members of the public that their opinions are interesting or useful
              - Vox pops for a start.
              - Taking half-arsed internet forum conversations (which are fine by themselves) seriously, by printing them in a ******* newspaper. At this rate General will get on the Daily Mail.

Using tweets from random people in a news story. BBC have got really bad at this, half their stories are just reporting on and quoting tweets.

Ban dogs in the city. Bring back dog licences. Licences only issued to dog owners who are able to train and control their dogs. What annoys me are dogs that take owners for a walk; once the dog is leading, it thinks it's the boss. (Yes I have trained some dogs in my lifetime). I see very few dogs being walked correctly ie the dog walking alongside the owner.
