The housing market is fooked, stamp duty or otherwise.Originally posted by ladymuck View PostBut it's ok, we will keep the cuts to stamp duty cos we need to keep the house market boyant
Would've been very hard to reverse that one, given that it's live. Not worth the political headache.Comment

Most of the things in te mini-budget really should be saved for a full budget. Dropping the IR35 stuff as an ad-hoc decision was nice, but not really logical - Kwasi should've waited until April for that once he'd got his feet under the table IMO and then it could've stuck.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Yeah - that would have been better. Hopefully there's not been irreparable damage done by it doing the hokey cokeyOriginally posted by d000hg View PostMost of the things in te mini-budget really should be saved for a full budget. Agree, one of the ironies is that, had she stuck to the original promises (CT and NICs reversal), scaled back the energy help to something sane and asked the OBR to report, then the whole thing probably would've stuck. As it turns out, we've now got Truss overseeing the exact opposite of TrussonomicsOriginally posted by d000hg View PostMost of the things in te mini-budget really should be saved for a full budget. . In other words, she's now completely pointless and won't be there for long.

The energy help is the only thing that should have been done. The crisis the country faces is immediate and the people at most risk won't be helped in the immediate term by CT/NIC cuts. Gross government intervention is not normal conservatism but this is not a normal time.Originally posted by jamesbrown View Post

They could still have planned to cut taxes and announced it in April rather than now. A big part of the problem was the suddenness rather than the changes per se.
It seems unlikely Hunt will be chancellor long-term so there's every chance of another bite at this!Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
