They could still have planned to cut taxes and announced it in April rather than now. A big part of the problem was the suddenness rather than the changes per se.
It seems unlikely Hunt will be chancellor long-term so there's every chance of another bite at this!
They could have upped the lower rate threshold and upped the minimum wage brought more workers out of poverty and forced more large employers to spend in the UK.

I agree that energy help was needed, even dramatic help, but the approach they took was far in excess of expectations or what was necessary (you don't need to make promises two years out - a 6 month promise wouldn't have changed the speed/complexity of the rollout and the OBR report would've changed the picture entirely). Hunt will scale this back after 6 months, which is entirely sensible.

Kids we are going to disney world for 3 weeks in the summer...

3weeks later: Hold on - Oh sorry Kids - I knew I forgot something - I didn't check whether we could actually afford this and we are now going to Skegness for 3 days.

          No words!

He was as welcome as a fart in a lift in the last pm battle and is a C'hunt. I knew as soon as his name popped up for this role he'd step in and fck it all up.

An unmitigated disaster. Portugal or maybe somewhere else want my money as im just weighning up now where to move to. Their tax rates for expats along with many other countries are far more acceptable.

Im fedup paying 55% of my salary to a bunch of numpties who can't even stop the influx of economic migrants jumping the queue on our coastlines each day. 36,000 so far this year that's almost the size of ALL inhabitants of Salisbury in one year and that's an estimation of count not actual. Think of the tax burden we are contributing to due to this oversight. And no Labour would most probably supply them dinghies and in flight food as well as the hotels at the other end. Not for me thanks. Id happily pay 30% tax but no more when at least 10% or more is being spaffed up the wall paying bogus PPE companies and as above.

                The UK is completely screwed.

I worked for a Web company back in early 2000s that promised a "get together" with all companies that parent company had bought out all around Europe. Basically a free holiday to Tunisia for 7 days. Then they worked out how much it would cost...

They sent us to Alton Towers instead.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

Wouldn't you just end up paying the same tax anyway working for UK companies or will you start working within the EU?

Moving to the EU would be great and all but if I have to go permie due to lack of jobs and language ability is there much of a saving? Other than actually having a functioning health service of course.

Thinking of Portugal specifically - sunshine, good food, port.
