So he's proved he isn't a troll and?

He still shouldn't post tulip threads in General or the professional forums.

Why is everyone so obsessed about what others earn? We can all look on Jobserve or similar and see what similar roles to ours are offering. We are all adults and know what we can or can't do in our jobs (or at least get away with). We're all able to negotiate for ourselves. We know how much we need to live. So we can all set our own rate in negotiations (whether we're successful is a different matter).

I couldn't give two hoots what others earn, so long as I earn what I think I'm worth.

If you were one of the top performers in your team and then you found out others who contributed less got paid more, i am sure you would care.
But if you were one of the lower performers/slackers then i agree you probably wouldn't give two hoots.

No I wouldn't care. None of my business what others negotiated. If I'm on less, and doing more, then I'm crap at negotiating. Kudos to the guy/girl who gets paid more and gets away with it.

I work in areas where I often see the salaries and invoices of all employees and contractors ... so I see how much the cleaners get to the CEO ... really couldn't care less so long as I'm happy with what I'm earning based on my negotiating

We're legal adults ... it's just mental age and physical age may differ somewhat

I agree with Whorty. I will be earning what I asked for or was happy to agree to. That means I'm earning enough to keep the roof over my head, my bar stocked and holidays paid for. If someone else is earning more than me for doing less then well done them.

I get lots of repeat work because I'm good at what I do (whatever the hell that is) and I represent good value for money. The shysters who fleece the client on rates and deliver FA tend to (a) not last long and (b) not get repeat work. They get their jobs through mates and the unwary who fall for a sales pitch. I get my work through recommendation.

Probably worth remembering too that we're not all keyboard crunchers, so 'productivity' isn't always easy to measure in lines of code in some of our roles.

As a 'Head of', should I compare myself to my team members, or my peers in other 'Head of' roles, who's roles are totally different to mine, with different skills and market rates?
