        I just have a bit of a problem with food, in that I cant stop eating it.

        I've done diets and fitness plans and "healthy regimes" and "its not a diet, its a way of life" and all that b*llsh*t a thousand times before, but the fact of the matter is any "change" of my routine which temporarily makes me lose weight will stop being a change and revert back to normal at some point.
        Whatever the change (gym, swimming, fruit for breakfast, no sugar in coffee, etc etc) at some point will stop, and I'll go back to the routine I like.

        Simple as that.

        So I need something to physically stop me from eating - so that even when I'm weak I cant eat toblerones.

        I just wanted to see if anyone had experience in the stomach surgeries thats all - I dont need diet advice.
        Sounds like stomach stappling wouldnt work for you. It won't stop you from eating, you'd probably just end up rupturing it. Have some self control, it's not that hard.

          ah man, that psycho babble is a load of crap. At least in my case. I've had a great life, smashing childhood, no problems at all! Wasn't bullied, wasn't neglected, wasn't ignored, wasn't unloved - I wish I did have a deep rooted problem, cause I would fix it!
          My mam's side of the family are all a little bit tubby, and I seem to have embraced this genetic trait a little more enthusiasticly than anyone for some reason (not deep rooted!)

            Get someone to break your Jaw.

            Seriously go see a Psychologist, they may be able to change your attitude towards food.

            I believe that surgery does not make the eating problem go away, it just restricts your intake / ability to digest food, the problem still exists.

            If you really want to loose the weight, Diary what you eat and when. From this you may see patterns like, you only eat when bored, watching TV etc.. If this is the case find something else to do.

            My mum is huge, and the only time she seriouly lost weight was when she diaried what she ate, as after a while she realised that she was eating crap for no reason at all. The diary stopped and the weight re appeared.

              It does stop you from eating - well, it restricts the amount you can eat.
              Anymore than a palm full and you throw up (oh dear - that didn't sound right).

              Then by the time you've shed your weight, your stomach is completely used to only eating small amounts, and so are you (mentally as well as physically).

                If you are so happy with your body and youself why do you want to lose weight? If your self-image was as it should be you wouldn't be considering surgery would you? Therefore I would guess you do have a lack of self-esteem. Either that or you are lazy, vain and self-obssessed and want a great body without putting any effort into it at all.
                Try eating less and excercising more - stomach stapling is for the clinically obese or Hollywood saddos

                  sounds a bit extreme to me - why not go out for a bike ride for a few hours a week? I find a good way of losing weight is to lay off the booze for a couple of weeks a few times a year.

                    A friend of mine had her stomach stapled successfully (and lapiroscopically) and went from around a 26 to a size 14/16 She then needed another operation to get rid of the loose skin around her stomach and boobs. Compared to the initial stomach stapling op, the second one was extremely major and very expensive. Cause & effect.
                    ...my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

                      The present Mrs B is the same. She is a size 18 atm and wants to lose weight, but finding the willpower to do it is hard. We make it work because I am "officially" allowed to bully her into going to the gym/not eating chocolate/not having a second helping etc when required. It does cause argumants and it does cause stress but only in the short term and overall it is working.

                      And seriously, get some proffessional counceling about your attitude to food. I know you say you are happy with your life and all the rest of it but you are clearly unhappy about your size and unhappy about not being able to do anything about it. If you wern't you wouldnt be posting here asking for info about major surgery. No competant Doctor will reccomend you for surgery without making you go for councelling first anyway.

                      In the mean time, join a Gym and pay for a personal trainer there. It's not as expensive as you might think (£25-£30 per hour) and having a regular appointment with them at the gym will give you incentive to turn up. They will also motivate you during the excercise and plan a proper fitness/weight loss programme for you; rather than you just turning up and doing what you think might be good and quitting a month later cos it's made no differance.

                      Sorry if this comes accross as a bit harsh, it's not meant to be, it's just advice on dealing with the problem from someone on the other side of it.
