Roman Polanski most certainly has not paid for what he did.

actually true, whilst his activities have been restricted he deserves some jail time.

I see that Rishi Sunak has compared him being questioned about his wife's business links to Russia as being the same as Will Smith having his wife's illness made into a joke and him reacting to it.
No, one is something that should be investigated and requires honest answers, the other was a joke about an illness. Parliamentary standards cover spouses of cabinet members.

Did seem rather tactless. Bit like Boris claiming Ukraine fighting for its very survival was something Brits could empathise with because of Brexit.

That' not actually what he said, much less meant. Various heavily biased people have seized on his words out of context to make some pathetic point or other to undermine his position.

A bit like Partygate; mistakes were made and senior management were at fault for allowing things to happen but it doesn't warrant resignation.

A degree of proportionality seems to have gone walkies on modern politics...

Unless said biased people replaced the video I watched with a deepfake, then yes he did. He compared our respective fights for sovereignty and democracy.

I listened to one of the interviews where he first made that claim.

I then went online and replayed it to check that I hadn't misheard.

Just because you don't like certain journalists due to their political stance doesn't mean they don't sometimes report things accurately.

It's not about the words. He was using a metaphor, not claiming equivalence.
