Duh - thanks for that. I seem to be having a "failure to read things completely" day today, this is about the third time.

you’re a company with only one employee paid above the Class 1 National Insurance secondary threshold

is mildly ambiguous. Does it mean:

• You're a company with only one employee, and that employee is paid above the Class 1 NI ST, or
• You're a company with one or more employees, but only one is paid above that threshold?

In either case, it looks like if you happen to have two employees and both are paid above that threshold, you still qualify?

God he's terrible!

He can't deal with people on benefits.

He told a 24 year old to investigate the Kick Start Scheme. 2 minutes later Iain Dale told him that it was ending next week.

Except the kick start scheme was/is brilliant and targeted directly at young people on benefits, giving many of them meaningful work and career skills.
Technically the person could still apply but realistically it's a fair cop as you have to start the job by the end of the month to qualify and that's a bit of a stretch. We were in a rush to get the DBS clearance on our last KS person for just this reason. Luckily it went through quickly and another young person is off the dole for 6 months and learning life/work skills that should stand them in good stead of they hack it.

As the NI threshold rise only happens from 6 July ie 13 weeks at previously announced threshold of £190 a week and 39 weeks at new threshold confirmed as £242 the breakeven salary for paying same NICs in 22/23 as 21/22 is £34,372. Above that you'll pay more NICs in total in 22/23

Enhanced since we work with kids. But they can be pretty snappy if it all goes right - can take a few days or can stretch out for ages if they're waiting on someone.
