    Stop the war Russian style.
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...in-war-ukraine

More than 4,300 people have been arrested after demonstrators took to the streets in 21 Russian cities to condemn Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, while protesters in Kazakhstan have followed suit, turning out in large numbers to chant “No to war” and “Putin is a dickhead”.

The independent monitoring group OVD-Info – which has already logged more than 7,500 anti-war protest arrests – said it had documented the detentions of at least 4,366 people in 53 cities including Vladivostok and Irkutsk. Opposition activists also posted videos showing protests in other cities.

“The screws are being fully tightened – essentially we are witnessing military censorship,” Maria Kuznetsova, OVD-Info’s spokesperson, told Reuters. “We are seeing rather big protests today, even in Siberian cities where we only rarely saw such numbers of arrests.”

But it has been almost 20 years since the Iraq invasion. March 2003 (was it really that long ago )

Seems like most have forgotten how brutally we bombed Iraq and all the lies and propaganda that was pumped out to justify that war.
Sick of the Russian whataboutism. TheUS led Iraq war was not targeting civilians, like Putin is doing now. Sadam was a cruel dictator who had invaded its neighbour. Used chemical weapons on the Kurds. Yes some evidence was fabricated but even without it he still managed to launch missiles on Israel and an invasion was long overdue.
Maybe you also forgot the war between Iraq and Iran which was extremely cruel.

Try and oppose Putin's actions in Russia and see how far you get.

Whether you were a member of the government like Robin Cook, another politician opposed to it, an ordinary member of the public who signed a petition /protested on the streets, or a journalist who reported on it all in the US and UK you didn't get beaten up by the police, poisoned, suddenly disappear, or threatened with 10+ years in prison for showing your opposition to the government's war

If you want to understand the bigger picture, which doesn't absolve Putin but mostly explains his actions, read this

By tying itself to a reckless and dangerous America, the Ukrainians made a blunder that client states will study for years to come

I disagree. I could write several pages about this but I have other delaines today. As a starting point, I listened to Putin's speeches live. Putin's speech just prior to the war was chilling; it did mention NATO but the core of his speech was that Russia [the USSR] had been betrayed by the communist leaders et all who came after communism. He wanted to re-unite Russia as per the USSR. Putin contradicted himself a number of times in his speech.

Putin would have gone to war regardless of NATO. What is clear is Putin is mentally unstable. It ticks a few boxes of being a Narcissist.
Box one: He blames all the previous leaders for what is wrong about Russia.
Box 2: He surrounds himself with "yes-men".
Box 3: He puts on a Mr nice-guy front when he is in public but opposite when away from the press.
Box 4: His true-self occasionally comes out such as when he threw his toys out the pram when he gave his war speech.
Box 5: He is isolating himself from reality by stating in his country home and having his speeches broadcast from their, some of which are done with very poor green-screen effects.

Edit: If Putin has narcissist tendencies, it is likely that he is having repeated silent conversations with himself convincing himself something he is doing is right even if it is obviously wrong.

Fake video with tea pot giving it away that the room was empty was pretty stunning even by current standards.
