Just read the state wasn't allowing Junior open players in even though in many countries e.g. India you couldn't get vaccinated until you were 18 until very recently.

Because of such a stance, several players including India's Aman Dahiya have been unable to head to the Australian Open as they haven't been granted a medical exemption. The 17-year-old Dahiya, who was looking to compete in the Junior Grand Slam was told by the Australian authorities that, "Under current Australian guidelines, the applicant would be considered eligible for vaccination and therefore does not qualify for exemption." In India, vaccination drives for children below eighteen had started late, and therefore, Dahiya is not fully vaccinated and does not meet the criteria. Dahiya's coach Jignesh Rawal has said that the focus would now be to prepare Aman for the French Open in May, by which time, the vaccination process would have also been completed.

The exemptions were given by the state. They were anonymous ones so they didn't know who they were given to.

The Border Force is run by the federal government. So if you fly in it is the border force you have to convince to let you in the country.

I look forward to seeing him starring on an episode of "Nothing to Declare", the Oz customs thing.

I would think that being the world tennis number one does make you rather special. It's a formidable achievement and I'm puzzled that people don't acknowledge that anymore. The tournament will be a joke without him, let's face reality.

You are right anout the tournament and also about his achievment but I don't think doing away with immigration rules during covid is the acknowledgement that his achiements should command. I know rules have been bent many times for other sportsmen and women but it's highly debateable if that should have happened and him being unvaccinated also doesn't work in his favour. Sometimes, whoever you are, rules is rules. Australia is also well known to be tough on immigration.

I understand that he has caught the virus and recovered. That makes him a very low risk, this is just an asinine application of rather brittle rules. He is no risk to anyone and the hysteria it has generated is simply not proportional to the risks.

If it was recent, that would have been fine and there wouldn't have been a story. But if it is true he's had it once, it clearly wasn't recent enough, and therefore he needed to be vaccinated before going to Australia. Just like everyone else. His choice. He's the one who's let the public down, he's the one who's made the tournament into a joke.

Quite rightly he's the one being vilified.
