Frequently the hiring department has nothing much to do with the actual people you'll work with... I find HR and IT are often just things you deal with every now and then, a thorn in the side.
A warning sign yes, but not a huge red flag as I expect them to be a PITA.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

He will still have to deal with or work out how to by pass the HR department for things like wages, training etc.Originally posted by d000hg View PostFrequently the hiring department has nothing much to do with the actual people you'll work with... Sounds more like you are misunderstanding the process and the players in the chain and are expecting it to be something it really isn't. If you re-adjust your thinking to the reality of the situation it tends to sting less and is easier to understand and deal with.Originally posted by TheDude View PostHas anyone been approached for a role they previously interviewed for but were ghosted?
If so how what did you do?
I feel that ghosting applicants who have devoted hours of their time is rather bad form yet I can see why some firms do this in industries where open headcount and funding is in a constant state of flux.
There is a fine line between unprofessional and how the process works. It's about cold hard cash and sometimes the fluffy cuddles fall by the way side.
EDIT : Ah it's a permie role. Slightly different to the cut and thrust of agents and clients granted and I can see why you might expect a bit more engagement from perms yes, but either way, you got your answer. How much effort did you put in chasing them, just bearing in mind the drone you are speaking to is probably so far removed from the role it's likely they won't know either.Last edited by northernladuk; 28 October 2021, 13:05.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Yeah but that's a few minutes here or there, and judicious ignoring of emails.Originally posted by SueEllen View Post

There was a coding round and about six face to face interviews so to be ghosted was a little galling however I have seen the hiring process frozen from the other side many times.Originally posted by northernladuk View Post

The firm have got back in touch about the role and proposed a final technical chat before the HR stage after a good 14 months have passed which is nice but a little strange.

They can then ghost you and in another 18 months offer you the role.Originally posted by TheDude View Post

It's not civil service is it? A friend took interviews and then heard nothing for a year, suddenly got a call "you got it, when can you start?" Apparently this isn't even unusual.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Yup. They put hiring freezes in regularly and when one hits it's a dead stop regardless of business need. Can be for internal reasons like budget, workload, project requirements but also external factors like budget periods, changes of government, machinery of Gov incentives, you name it. There seems to be less reason to go ahead with an appointment than there is to block it at times.Originally posted by d000hg View PostIt's not civil service is it? Actually come to think of it the same happened to another friend for a pretty basic role in our local passport office. I think by the time she got offered the role, she had moved to another country and the office in question had been demolished.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
