The numbers of infected people doesn't matter a damn, it's the number that get ill that matters, and of those the number that require medical intervention is what will do the harm.
So let's all panic since HMG must be seen to be doing something - even if it is almost certainly unnecessary

The number getting ill is quite high, and growing.Originally posted by malvolio View PostThe numbers of infected people doesn't matter a damn, it's the number that get ill that matters, and of those the number that require medical intervention is what will do the harm.

The number of infected drives the number getting ill, and also drives the probability of new variants.
I confess, with the number vaccinated now at 85% how so many continue to get infected is a little alarming to the "vaccination fixes everything" mantra. Today's slides showed IIRC that among the elderly, half of those admitted to hospital are fully vaccinated... get those boosters if you're eligible!

Yes, but the elderly are not the highest proportion of those admitted to hospital and even so they are far more likely to have other conditions that make hospitalisation necessary. The total of hospitalisation appear (that word again!) to be predominantly the young and the unvaccinated.Originally posted by d000hg View PostThe number getting ill is quite high, and growing.
