    Whatsup WhatsApp

Would you put in writing you thought a colleague was f***ing hopeless. So that someone like Dominic Cummings could publish it later.

And surely conversations with the PM would be classed as restricted?? So is Dom in a lot of trouble.

I have written far worse in WhatsApp messages and emails.
I don't mind if they are published
As for messages being restricted. They were not using an internal government system but personal accounts so the restriction bit is a little iffy I think. Leaking an email from .gov.uk would be different so I am led to believe. I don't believe Boris' Tinder or Grindr profiles are restricted? Or maybe they are? because he married Princess Nutcase as the downing street press corps like to call her and not a transvestite alsatian. Well she looks like a woman.

The government has screwed up using WhatsApp anyway...

AFAIK WhatsApp is not a sanctioned HMG comms product. It appears they were using it in an at least notional personal capacity, probably to maintain deniability by removing it from the scope of FOI requests as the civil servants dealing with them would not be aware and so would not include them in a response.

At the time it probably didn't cross Johnsons mind that it could be played back against him. Dom, I suspect, was a bit more switched on.

Now, if any of those involved ever denied that they conducted official discussions on the platform as an excuse to avoid turning over message histories, that's just been blown out of the water as we now they they did.

Never liked Dominic Cummings however I like the fact he took screen shots of the conversations.

          Always cover yourself.

If I was involved in government I would ban all mp's from using any social media/messing apps.

          Especially WhatsApp.

          There MP's not celebs FFS.

These days you have to assume anything you send electronically can be found, if it's worth someone's time to do so. However many MPs are not technologically astute.
In terms of things being restricted, well technically you might be doing something wrong but leaking this sort of stuff always seems popular

And emails presumably. Not to mention letters and phones.

                Definitely

They should meet in a windy field with a paper bag over their heads.

Oh wait a minute I think MP's already do that but for a different reason

Most people in high ranking roles that I know use Signal messenger, which looks to be much more secure than WhatsApp and doesn't leave metadata trails.

Ultimately it doesn't matter how secure the messenger tool is, if the other person wants to spill the beans. Now, how we know D.C. didn't photoshop his screenshots or whatever I'm not sure?
