Maybe we need a more "effective" pandemic.

Reducing the worldwide population to what it was in 1900 might solve the problem.

Scoots still says that Apr 2020 didn't mark the start of a new stock bull market.

Well realistically that is the 'best' solution. But you cannot simply reduce birth rates or we end up top-heavy with loads of old people and nobody to do all the work.

Nature is trying its best to get rid of excess population but we made vaccine.

maybe next time it will do better.

The only way to stop the mass extinction of every living thing on the planet is to remove the virus.....humans. XR made a video about it below.

From a planetary perspective, it's clear we are the virus, not a tiny organism which attacks us.

I think this has been slightly mis-reported. The previous articles I'd seen about this (like https://www.thermalearth.co.uk/blog/...new-homes-2025 ) said that gas boilers in new build homes would be banned, so you could still replace your gas boiler in an existing home. I think anything else would be impractical and unpopular without far more notice - are they meant to be installing ground or air source heat pumps in tenement blocks in Glasgow? I think it'll be a ban on them in new builds and then a complete ban is decades away.

That might be more practical but it's not what the report says - of course it is a report on global advice not national policy. They're basically saying "If you want to achieve X, you need to do Y" rather than weighing in on practicality.

That said, do blocks of flats each have individual boilers? Surely that is itself a terribly inefficient setup if so!

Having one massive boiler is no more efficient than having several smaller ones. Most modern boilers, irrespective of size, are over 90% efficient.

Also, it's difficult to apportion cost with a single heating system. People who go out to work, and don't have the heating on, could end up paying the same as people who are home all day.

But are tenement flats running modern boilers? I thought normally these places had a boiler room and you paid a set fee - in fact I thought often you paid a set fee for all utilities but perhaps that varies from place to place. Not much experience in tenement living!

Actually in many cases that isn't true. Where the boiler is central it is possible to tune the boiler to the building so the boiler fires less often. Using the building as a heat store.

Measuring demand is perfectly possible but isn't always done so you can share bills. But you can share savings as well.

Plenty of Landlords have been bitten by tenants with inclusive bills running the boiler flat out with all the windows open they tend to have clauses in the agreement. For instance our Daughters flat rental agreement includes bills up to 125% of average across all of the landlords properties.
