Old Fashioned is wonderful though I never tried to make one; a mint Julep is my go-to in the summer. Never even heard of Sazeofc before.

Go to Diffords Guide. If you can't find a cocktail recipe there, it doesn't exist.
You want to try a sazerac or old fashioned. Both excellent cocktails.

I tend to drink Woodford Reserve, either the normal or their Rye. I drink a lot of Rye and use it in cocktails; mostly Manhattans and Old-Fashioneds, both recommended. I also use Sazerac, which is nice and Bulleit which is 95% Rye.
I made my own cocktail cabinet from English Ash, replacing an old bookcase in the kitchen as I couldn't find one that held more than half a dozen full size bottles.

JD is mass produced crap, once you drink the proper Kentucky bourbon (as opposed to Tennessee Whisky) you will know the difference.
Huge fan of Bourbon, so I can recommend:
Blantons Gold
Elijah Craig
Basil Hayden
Evan Williams
Four Roses
Makers Mark (good for cocktails and Egg Nog)
Michter's small batch
Woodford Reserve Rye
Eagle Rare (this is really, really nice; bizarrely you used to get this in Asda for 35 notes when Selfridges had same thing for £50!)
Currently drinking one called Boondocks, valentines pressie from Mrs qh, had one too many last night, but damn worth it. 8/10
I can remember around 15 years ago you could get a bottle of Pappy van winkle for hundred notes, wish I'd done so as worth over 10 times that now.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

No idea. I just looked at the stash of brown fluid HWMBO has at mine and read the labels off. At least I managed not to include the armangnacOriginally posted by d000hg View Post

To have neat, I like Woodford ReserveOriginally posted by d000hg View PostI'm much more a whisky guy but sometimes the sweeter taste of bourbon hits the spot. But I have no reference beyond Jack Daniels and a bottle of gentlemen Jack once which wasn't bad.
Anyone got any recommendations for a sipping whiskey? Where is Jack rated... Is it the Bells of bourbon or not so bad?
To make an old fashioned, I like Buffalo TraceComment
