    Current vaccine status

    Surely this must be wrong:

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Why? UK has prioritised first doses. So hardly anyone has had two.

So UK is hardly ahead in vaccinations?

You know Ministers could have ordered half shots to get twice as many people "vaccinated" by now.

Some simple maths will show you're clearly wrong. We're nearly on track with the EU and we aren't even trying to give anyone second doses yet.

With a lag of 12 weeks until 2nd doses, mostly, we're going to see a colossal jump quite soon.

12 weeks lag just means the headline figure goes up real fast and then it stops because capacity will be used for 2nd dozes - which was trialled by the way, it's just the Ministers decided for their political convenience it would be better to have bigger number of "vaccinated" people.

The flood of age restrictions for Oxford vaccine is also concerning, we'll see soon who is right.

on track with the EU? nearly 5 times the EU.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccinations - Statistics and Research - Our World in Data

UK 18.86 doses per 100 people.
EU 3.85 doses per 100 people.

Even super efficient Germany is at 3.91 doses per 100 people.

              have a play.

So why is the UK being so slow with the 2nd jab? When the instructions on the bottle say take one twice daily, would you just take one a day for twice as long and hope for the best?

From a public health perspective, if one dose gives exactly half the efficacy of a double dose, then there's nothing in it. All evidence suggests that a single dose gives much more than half the efficacy of two so, again from a public health perspective, its a no brainer.
If other countries are supply-constrained, rather than delivery process constrained, then they should really be doing what we are doing, to get the maximum possible public health benefit in the shortest amount of time.

They are 5 times faster than the EU on any dose. Whilst a single dose is not as effective as two, a large portion of the population (most of those at risk) having 60% + protection is better than a very small portion having 80%+

They have effectively fully protected 1.7% of their population the UK has protected 18% at least partially.

This was discussed with the scientists before it was started. Just as buying vaccine early was.
