Based in the anecdotal evidence of Mrs CFL, they are seeing vomiting replace cough as a symptom in ICU with the new strain. Higher level of 12 - 18 year olds.

Ironically, if the UK had done this early doors we'd be in a much better position health wise and likely no worse off financially wise. NZ still on the 'winning' side after a similar approach?

I agree. You can still import/export the goods you need; just don't allow people in or out other than for repatriation.

Lorry drivers could offload at ports with no contact and turn around with an export load. Air freight and container shipping pretty much does that already.

Just need to provide isolated accommodation where an overnight stay is required due to crew/drivers being out of hours.

There's talk of them using a nearby airport to park all those poor truckers while 'operation stack' overwhelms the local road system. Maybe they could get some planes flying the cargo over if it's perishable, while they're there, shame to waste it in a traffic jam.

Comes back to whether China dragged its feet alerting the world (and WHO) at the end of last year when local doctors were raising alarm bells (one was silenced permanently when he later caught and died of covid), so things like stopping the tens of thousands of Chinese students from coming to the UK at the start of term amongst all the other measures countries like NZ have taken since may have stopped enough cases reaching the UK that even the piss-poor track and trace system would have been able to cope.

Seems China has enough influence that them letting the virus out to even the economic playing field will be given a free pass, and anyone that raises such a thing will need to be wearing tinfoil when they kick the back door in to avoid being labelled a 'vocal terrorist'.

Fortunately I've got my David Icke tinfoil shellsuit to hand for such emergencies.
