Computer varifocal lenses, Varilux Computer 3V or similar any good?

4years wearing Zeiss varifocals lenses which I believe are at the top end for near, intermidiate and distance vision. While very good, I am thinking of getting a second pair of varifocal lenses specifically optimized for laptop/ pc screen and not necessarily distance. My last eye examination shows a slight higher than normal eye pressure so trying all I can to remove/delay the need for medication.

So google is showing Essilor Varilux Computer 3V varifocals as a good option. Great for screen, reading and semi distance.

Anyone with 1st hand experience of this lense or similar?

    Thanks

I just use a single vision intermediate prescription (and get it via the company if prescription is marked 'For VDU purposes'). It's fine for picking up the phone to read as well, although if you have a large (>3.00) near vision addition, that may not apply. Opticians don't like you buying them as they make a huge markup on varifocals.

Single vision intermediate prescription is optimised for computer use, and if you're spending 8 hours per day looking at a screen, why would you not use what's optimised. But there are always compromises.

Optometrists are usually too close to the money-making side of dispensing to be impartial.

However good varifocals are they are no substitute for single vision lenses. I use varifocals for general use but if I am at the keyboard all day I prefer single vision lenses.

Too right, my monitor would have to be below the level that H&S wonks like. If I had it at eye level I'd have to crick my neck back to see through the reading bit.

I had cataract surgery a few months ago. So I'd recommend just getting your lenses replaced. I wear the same glasses for my phone, laptop and books. For work, driving and everyday life, don't need them at all. After 42 years of wearing glasses. If I'd had it done 30 years ago, I'd have saved a fortune.

Too right. I went into 2 independent high street opticians. Very knowledgeable but wanted to charge me twice as much for same zeiss varifocals from costco.

Since single vision computer lens is the general consensus I better bring out the co. cheque book. Might as well give it all the trimmings on offer.

I thought about having a laser surgery but apparently, I could still need to wear glasses which makes no sense at all.

IIRC you want the optometrist to include an Intermediate Addition on the Prescription annotated "For VDU use".
