You got to remember the current PM of the UK government is only there because of a lie. Truly, I could think of nothing worse than having a failed Daily Telegraph columnist running the country."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". As it's not a personality contest and the PM has no true individual powers without sign-off from the cabinet, I'm sure we would all have preferred it if the amateurish nature of the government was on show through some other means, rather than a mishandled pandemic.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostYou got to remember the current PM of the UK government is only there because of a lie. Doctors on the front line still do not have access to appropriate PPE. GPs are not being provided any working PPE; a flappy material facemask is not enough when you are being coughed on. The number of people they will infect who they are treating who may just have influenza or a severe cold is going to be staggeringly high. The main worry is I am reliably informed that there is not much we can do except import them as producing the masks requires specialist kit for the valve. At least two factories are trying to quickly create machinery to make these in central England, but it is slow progress realistically.
I do not often worry; life generally goes on. Now? I am very very worried, particularly for NHS workers on the front line who are inevitably going to fall sick and pass this on within hospitals and at home to their loved ones and on to nurseries/schools. The feedback loop seems to be unstoppable.Comment

My kids are at college - they're now on remote learning. Well, the one doing life sciences is. The one training to be a teacher has to wait a week while the professors catch up on the technology... Secondary school kids are using various collaboration tools to keep the teaching going. Exams are still take place under strict controls. The infrastructure is bearing up ok.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostWe've been homeschooling since the shutdown here in Germany... so far so good. You need to get your priorities in order.
The real disadvantaged from all this omnishambles will be the increased number of dead who needlessly were infected in the first place. I've even been advising people worrying about these sorts of things to think of the bigger picture. Don't even worry about your mortgage payment, lost job, or anything like that. This is an unprecedented situation and may continue for months. Exams, if anything, can be better prepared for through study now. Life will be strange for a couple of years after the fall-out from this as we readjust all walks of life. 20-30% unemployment is a serious fact staring us in the face now. Your house will not burn down (hopefully), you will not be homeless, you will get food, your family will survive. Minimise the risk of infection and keep a clear head. Numbers on computers - bills mortgages, everything - they're on hold.
In the interim, keep your family as safe as possible and - if you are fully healthy (not pregnant, etc) join in with the thousands donning FPP3 facemasks and gloves to help support those in need at this time who are likely to be abandoned by the healthcare service due to mass staff illnesses due to lack of PPE.
Perspective.
