Rather like the Niqab, Burka and Chador?Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostI have no strong views. I think they should be removed in banks and when needing to show your face for ID purposes.Comment

I think we should have a consistent policy which aims to remove face-coverings as far as is practicable for security and ID purposes. But consideration should perhaps be given to teachers - as I think communications is improved when not covering the face - so it strikes me as a hindrance to education. But an outright ban is authoritarian.Originally posted by Zigenare View PostRather like the Niqab, Burka and Chador?Comment

Now you are opening a can of worms. With the prevalence of CCTV systems on our streets, which we are told are there for security and ID purposes, does this imply that no face coverings should be used in public unless of course the law demands their use, i.e. a crashhelmet on a motorcycle.Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostI think we should have a consistent policy which aims to remove face-coverings as far as is practicable for security and ID purposes.

So, putting "looking silly" aside, you'd be quite comfortable with groups of people walking around wearing the Balaclava just so long as they weren't teachers and they were willing to remove their Balaclava on request to prove their ID?Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostI think we should have a consistent policy which aims to remove face-coverings as far as is practicable for security and ID purposes. Looks silly was about mankinis not balaclavas.Originally posted by Zigenare View PostSo, putting "looking silly" aside, you'd be quite comfortable with groups of people walking around wearing the Balaclava just so long as they weren't teachers and they were willing to remove their Balaclava on request to prove their ID?
WRT balaclavas - They might be a bit hot if they wore them at the moment. Perhaps a summer ban?
What do you think?Last edited by PurpleGorilla; 8 August 2018, 10:32.Comment

You can cctv track someone by their clothing, shoes, perhaps even approximate height, biomechanics etc. No I don’t think we should prohibit face coverings generally.Originally posted by Yorkie62 View PostNow you are opening a can of worms. Does any of that work for someone wearing a burka?Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostYou can cctv track someone by their clothing, shoes, perhaps even approximate height, biomechanics etc. No I don’t think we should prohibit face coverings generally.
Clothing: black burka juts like all the other black burkas, pretty indistinguishable.
shoes: who knows long black clothing obscures shoes most of the time
approximate height: not really going to work is it. Need to know camera angle, distance to subject etc. to even get close to measuring height.
biomechanics: can you see the biomechanics of someone wearing a long full loose body covering, regardless of colour.
Someone wearing a gimp mask on the other hand..... probably much easier to track on the public streets using CCVT.Last edited by Yorkie62; 8 August 2018, 10:26.Comment

I think in this day and age we should remove clothing which clear creates a cultural barrier and introduces a security risk.Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostYou can cctv track someone by their clothing, shoes, perhaps even approximate height, biomechanics etc. No I don’t think we should prohibit face coverings generally.Comment
