It's more nuance than that.

You only get involved in a war in another continent if asked to or there is mass genocide which could spread. The Iraq war wasn't because of mass genocide.

We promised to help Kuwait according to the Kuwaitis I met. And they were very thankful to and impressed by the British armed forces though they were not impressed by the American armed forces attitude.
