When you get major incidents with loss of life over here, investigations into the causes drag on for months, years or even decades. Yet, 2 days after a supposed gas attack by Syrian forces, when there is nobody on the ground checking the facts, an armed US response.
Justified, some may say, but can anyone really be reasonably sure, after so short a time, that it was not due to a rebel held stockpile being hit as Russia claims?
Hmmmm. Maybe, that's the solution to armed conflicts. Lots and lots of international complex rules, long investigations and masses of form filling before any armed response is allowed. We can call it the Hillsborough Rule. By the time we get an answer we will have forgotten what the conflict is about and won't be bothered anymore. HMRC could be put in charge of the UN, they'd do a good job!
