50 years? It's a simple enough bloody question "Is there a god or not?"

I think Lucy has hit the nail on the head here. There was an excellent interview with Sister Wendy Beckett (a nun who presented a very good arts programme) in the Saturday before last's Independent.
She has spent over 50 years in quiet contemplation of God and two things she said struck me greatly. She said (highly paraphrased), "I believe that we will all go to heaven, even the most vile and debased person, regardless of whether we have come to God through Jesus or not. I cannot believe that God, who is all loving, would deny entry to heaven to anyone."
The other thought was, "I think a great many of the most vociferous christians and evangelists have lost sight of what the message of Jesus was. For them the message is crowded out and obscured by pride and paraphernalia. I think they will be very surprised when they get to heaven."
A murderer up for sentencing says to the judge, Look mate, I did not know it was wrong or you are a good man so you will not to punish me or I have not committed a murder in the last 3 months so please let me off. That is the equivalent of us saying well we can transgress God's law and still end up in heaven. Wrong.
So why didn't God save the person that was murdered?

they haven't released an album for a few years, but yes they were pants!
I saw them in concert (please don't laugh...it was a school trip). The lead signer had to read the words of two songs from crib notes as he had just written them that day...utter b0llocks of course...
