Question for you - why did Jesus speak in parables?
So were the people who wrote the Bible the only people to have ever been advised of God's will (obviously with the assistance of the Holy Spirit)? Yes or No?

Uninitiated or not it is contradictory - there are massive contradictions between the Old and New testaments for example. The Old Testament preaches your type of religion - all fire and brimstone whereas the New Testament preaches tolerance and goodwill to your fellow man - if both are inspired by the Holy Spirit which is correct?

If he did speak in parables then I assume to make people really think about what he was saying. Alternatively he was worried about being misquoted

        Funny thread.

If you ignore him he'll eventually get bored and feck off somewhere else...

I think you'll find the Holy Trinity Brompton lot tend to conveniently, if I may mix my christian metaphors, turn the other eye to the old testament as it doesn't quite fit in with the company mission statement.

Good point Hyper but it does rather leave Chico up the proverbial as far as his argument goes. Mind you I think he only does it to wind us all up - I cannot believe such a religious zealot has been bred outside Alabamha or Iraq

The problem I have with most religious organisations is the pick-and-choose-to-suit-our-ideology approach to scripture, whether it's the Quran, the Bhagavad-Gita or the Bible.

Population control - just read Chomsky.

You'd be surprised JG - the born-again alpha lot are as argumentative and single-minded as the Amway lot (funny how there's an American marketing machine behind both). The old rule that one does not talk about politics and religion at the dinner table becomes anathma to them: there are plenty of be-spectacled ones with a holy (trinity) bible in one hand, a semi-peeled king prawn in jus de citrom in the other and a big chip on life's shoulder pontificating about how bad you and society are because we have turned away from god, while basking in the glory that having a minority view is cause célèbre in todays socialist-Marxist culture.

I even had someone say about how it was meant to be that they got a speeding ticket for doing 36 in a 30mph zone.

And how the patriotic song Jerusalem is not a Christian song because it is a paean to a mythical Englishness.

This is what fucks me off about all this - the original Christian message is one of tolerance, love, understanding, guidance, education, debate and having a sense of humour throughout.

Misguided people like Chico are those that are distorting the true message and simply turning people away with their pretentious social positioning and idealistic mantra, leaning heavily on the convenient paradox of accepting religious faith without question.

Bit like this government really: do what I say, not what I do and no questions.

Couldn't agree more Hyper. The religion I grew up with was tolerant, interesting and, on occasion fun when I was a kid. These days it seems to be a mixture of fire and brimstone preaching or political soapboxing.

There is, actually. Evidence that he existed, I mean. Was the Son of God, that's a bit hazier on the evidence front.
