As if thats the case. Certain forum members are untouchable because they are the "good old boys". They can do what they want, they can shout down who they want, they can abuse whoever they want.

Wait until next time a newbie asks a question thats a little bit silly - they'll pounce on it. And we'll never see the newbie again. Is this good for the forum that new members are put off like this?

We're going to end up with a forum just full of the "good ole boys" telling each other how important they are.

Why are some users allowed to constantly spout abuse in the Professional forums, chase off potential new members, try to run some users off the forum completely and generally act like complete twats?

Other users have been perma-banned for much, much less.

              2) Acting like a school playground bully and making personal comments just because someone doesn't agree with you.

I wonder which one this forum comes under?
Is having boasts about JSA in your sig purely to wind people up "acting like an adult" or more reminiscent of the school playground?

Not been following this, but on the subject of mods in general on the wider internet it's a recognised phenomenon. I was a member of a popular, ahem, file sharing site a few years ago, who had a notorious hierachy of mods/admins. To be fair the ones lower down were always helpful, would explain things and help with technical issues etc. But the ones higher up formed a tightknit group of "untouchables" who would ban or remove priveleges for the slightest infraction, or merely having the audacity to question any decision they made. You weren't allowed to raise an issue with one mod with another, or you'd face a ban etc..

One of these mods in particular demonstated a skill for pursuing members over the wider internet, using their IPs to trace their Facebooks and the like, was quite worrying. At the end of the day it's just a power/control thing.

Those who act like twunts will lack this 'power' elsewhere (job, relationship, perhaps their finances, health, family etc.) so being able to excert what in their mind is 'power' on an anonymous message board gives them what they feel is missing in their lives.

I'd guess that is because you are not taking in to the account the stuff they do that's useful to forums as well. These people may do just enough to keep them from being permabanned. You've got to look at the balance.
Chase off potential newbies? Maybe but go on any targeted forum and ask stupid questions and you are going to get abuse. Try it on Mumsnet. Even the immigration forums pile in to lazy and stupid posts and they are super moderated there. Sometimes, just sometimes, the posters do it to themselves. It's the way of forums. If it spurs them on to read up and do more of their own research they've actually learned a very valuable lesson from the fall out.

Anyway, this is off topic. Back to PC's problems.

Ah, but you see that's all just a bit of "fun".
PC doesn't help his cause a lot of the time and seems to want his cake and eat it, IMO.
He's always bringing up JSA etc. In his posts, yet gets all bolshie, LOL, when someone else does it.
