EU referendum: Boris and Gove pledge tough new immigration system after Brexit

Not just about EU immigration, that from outside is still slightly higher and generally more of a problem.

The current barriers to residence are far too low. With some exceptions where there are major shortages, skills requirements and salary needs to be set much higher. Working migrants do expand the GDP but also add similarly to the population so there is no increase in what matters, GDP per capita of our citizens. They also put obvious pressures on our limited resources. We can't possibly expand our schools/houses/infrastructure etc. to cope with the rise in population. Some resources, like our countryside, are finite.

Those applying also need to understand and undertake to comply with our laws and major principles. Police don't always have the resources to attend a burglary so why should they have to tackle things like FGM, forced marriage or torturing kids to drive our evil spirits? Why should we have to spend money on tackling Islamic extremism promoted by foreign imams?

The best way to tackle racism is by addressing real concerns, by ensuring as far as possible that the migrants we do get are seen to be useful people. People also need to feel in control of their own destinies, not dictated to by unelected people they know nothing about. The growth of the far right across Europe is largely a result of too many decades of lax immigration policies and impositions by an undemocratic EU:

Long waiting times seem to be engrained into the NHS.
Health spending 16 years ago was about 50 billion, it is now about 150 billion.

Average wait times to see a GP are about 2 weeks now I think. That is a broken system.

I haven't any evidence on GP waiting times but something similar.

My missus works as a Health Visitor in Southern England for an NHS trust. We were chatting about her work the other day when she told me that almost 75% of her case-load is now for Eastern European families.

There has been a shortage for a long time but it does not invalidate the fact that we have too many people needing the services of too few providers. If anything matters are worse at the moment with one in 8 GP jobs unfilled. Plenty of Starbucks workers but no one to mend them when they break

It makes you wonder though, there are far more immigrants in Germany and France yet I can make an appointment to see my GP or dentist for tomorrow although a specialist might take a couple of days...
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Good waste of 100 billion then.

It doesn't say things were significantly different in the past; certainly hospital waiting times have been a political issue as long as I can remember (as were class sizes when I was at school in the 80s). As well as immigration the population is increasing through births and people are living a lot longer. And thanks to TV doctors and better health information we're constantly encouraged to see the GP to have a bit of a chat.

Yep. My family in France tell me unbelievable stories of going for a scan and getting the result later that day and starting treatment the day after. Though apparently their doctor is Romanian..

Immigration is not the problem with the NHS.

If France is so great why do migrants not want to stay there?
